Coach is a great man.

that time Lou stuck with a - NCAA Prop 48- kid from Woodruff and went 31-4 and won a National Championship -

Lou was a 26 year old assistant coach at William & Mary when John F Kennedy was assassinated while in office - he was the head coach at Arkansas during a failed assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan - and now he's lived through another failed assassination attempt of the 45th President of the United States - Donald J Trump -
proud of Lou for speaking out -

I always liked Lou and enjoyed him coaching here. He’s always welcomed back to the state.

As you probably know, one of the best stories Houston Nutt relates about his early coaching days involves one of his first gigs as fullbacks coach under Lou Holtz at Arkansas, circa 1983-ish.
Regardless of the jabs we've thrown their way over the years, in the ever-changing landscape of the conference, it saddens me to consider the twilight of these gentlemen and realize that we're slowly losing the DNA that makes the SEC (and college football in general) what it uniquely once was.
I don't know where we're headed, but I think it wise to cherish the true southern gentlemen we still have left, even those who were adopted in, because we'll probably never have an era of leadership in this sport or perhaps across this country like that again (at least in our lifetimes).
