Meh... ten vertical feet for 40 seconds at 80 million dollars.
Maybe it's me but I truly don't see the hype. Isn't this just a twin blade drone masquerading as a helicopter? Sure Mar's is a long ways off but it's still just a remote control signal saying fly and now land almost simultaneously.

Future versions will do much more.
This was the first one. It was just proof of concept. By the time people are on Mars they will do alot more stuff than 40 sec of flight.
I mean what did you need to be satisfied, lasers?

It has missions to fly that will require it to navigate on its own. It’s true A.I.

The atmosphere is vastly thinner on Mars than here. Getting any sort of flight over there is damn near impossible.
Think of it this way. Getting a Corvette to go 5mph doesn't sound particularly impressive. Getting it to go 5mph driving on the ocean floor 2000 feet down sounds pretty darn impressive.
