I think he's still posting on another Bama site.

I think all of us Braves fans are going to want a pity party this season.

Tbird.

It's the rare night that I'm awake and drinking... lately.

Sup.

Just started about as inflammatory a post as I could think of. Prolly gonna have to bump in the morn, but I didn't want to forget the topic idea.

Everything ok?

I'm back to night shift for the time being starting tonight.

Mood is very down around here, though. One of the most well-liked guys in the shop committed suicide over the weekend. Folks are taking it pretty hard, myself included. He was a good dude.

The bad thing is living and working with a bunch of Cardinal fans, I now have to hear them crow about stealing him for eternity. They are the absolute worst fans in any sport.

I hate Cards fans.

Also, they only have him for a year before he's a FA. They can't afford him after that. Stanton screwed the mid range and below salaried teams for outfielders.

I didn't mean as long as he's in STL. I meant that I get to hear about it until the Braves actually win the NL again which is probably never.

Unfortunately, that's far too prevalent in the military. I'm not sure how I haven't lost a friend to suicide yet, since many of my friends have done at least three or four tours overseas.

The military doesn't put nearly enough money into mental health.

They might win the NL East again soon... oh, wait! gNats just signed an ace. Mets are on the rise. Marlins are on the rise. The only team that's gonna suck as much as the Braves are an aging Phillies roster.

I know what they're doing though. They're planning for 2017 and the new stadium.

I'm actually happy about it (I know, I'm weird ). Way better than the split mids/days I've been pulling the past couple weeks

That's the damn truth. Makes me mad.

Hurts to lose this guy. I wasn't a close friend of his, as we were on different work shifts, but I'd talk to him a lot and work out with him occasionally.

Just really sad, you know?

I don't know what the exact ratio is, but I recall getting told in suicide awareness briefings (there were 100s) that there was not a significant statistical jump for soldiers who had deployed versus those who hadn't.

All the suicide risks I had under my command had never seen combat. Most hadn't deployed.

I don't know how shite goes in the AF. We had staff duty in the Army and that was the only time that I had to work overnight. Sounds turrble though.

I hear ya. Sucks when things like that happen.

I have a really close friend with PTSD that I worried about for a long time. He's married a damned Gump and had a couple of kids though. He got out recently and seems to be doing well. Spent like four tours overseas as an infantryman with the 101st.

I guess it wouldn't be that far fetched. I was in the 101st and they've had so many deployments since I got out that most of what I hear is about guys from there though. I got out right before 9/11 so I missed all of it, but some of my friends are lifers.

I do know for a fact that suicide risk is higher in non-combat branches than in the combat ones. I read a few studies that theorized it was due to the close comraderie combat units had, vs support.

That wasn't specific to this period, but over the last 100 years or so.

We're undermanned in my supply coso, so we have 1 troop per shift. Had a new guy replace the dayshift person over the holidays, so I was helping train him, hence my weird shift.

It'd be worse working overnight if the missus had a consistent schedule, but hers is even crazier than mine. Ends up that me always working nights is like the one point of sanity

Damn

Yeah, shite like this is why I ain't doing a career in the military. Proud to serve, but I'm not cut out to do 20+ years, I already know.

Yeah, not many people are lifers.

I have two friends who will be. One wanted to but was phased out. All are infantry. One is back at Fort Campbell after being a drill sergeant... after several tours overseas. One is in Italy right now. Talk about the most amazing OCONUS assignment.
