I may move to the BookBoard but I can't find the news that used the analogy of "the Dark Forest" same china guy that wrote 3 body problem. Great books along with his others.
So it insinuates all the aliens throughout the universe hides from all the others. And to advertise yourselves is a deat sentence....well not that bad but its why the reference to the Dark Forest was used.
Move to Book Board?

I think applying the laws of the jungle/forest would be some hide from others, but all are still known by each other.
The snake knows rat exists and vice versa. The snake will hide in waiting and the rat will hide its location from the snake. But they still encounter each other and they are still aware.
Even as primitive as we likely are, we've already developed the ability to identify planets that can support life as we know it. If we had faster travel, we could send drones and such to find it.
I know people like Stephen Hawking have said it foolish to broadcast signals into space because it's gives away our location. But I'm quite sure this blue ball already sticks out to any species out there. And if they can travel here to kill us, they have already sent probes and other things to monitor the native life etc.
And in nature you also have symbiotic relationships between species. Which shows that different species are capable of working together for shared goals. And sometimes species exist and provide services to others. In the ocean there are many examples of these.
More likely is we've been isolated from the rest due to our nature and lack of maturity as a species. We can't even get along amongst ourselves; we will just get out there and try to war. Try to conquer and take over resources, exploit things when we can etc. Based on ancient texts, it seems to be the general vibe.

The Dark Forest Theory is outlined in Liu Cixin's sci-fi novel The Dark Forest, in conversations between a sociology professor and former astronomer and the mother of their dead friend.
“The universe is a dark forest. Every civilization is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing aside branches that block the path and trying to tread without sound. Even breathing is done with care. The hunter has to be careful, because everywhere in the forest are stealthy hunters like him. If he finds other life—another hunter, an angel or a demon, a delicate infant or a tottering old man, a fairy or a demigod—there’s only one thing he can do: open fire and eliminate them," a passage reads.
"In this forest, hell is other people. An eternal threat that any life that exposes its own existence will be swiftly wiped out. This is the picture of cosmic civilization. It’s the explanation for the Fermi Paradox.”

Attention turns to an eagerly anticipated second season of 3 Body Problem, which reportedly wrapped production in February 2026 and is expected to premiere later this year. While Netflix has confirmed that the sci-fi thriller will return in late 2026, an exact release date or month has not yet been announced.
The second novel in the trilogy, The Dark Forest, will be adapted for Season 2, and it is widely regarded by readers as the strongest installment in the entire saga.
“Season 1 is a good season, but... Dark Forest is the strongest book of them all, and this season really dives into that whole narrative and what happens in that book.”
