I can't believe we're still having this conversation. Is there so advantage to looking like the majority...of course there is. Does that mean anyone with talent won't get somewhere because of their skin color, probably not.
I don't get why people try to argue against the obvious.
What advantage? And at the micro or macro level? Being a non-Hispanic white male in Laredo isn't going to help you.
Is it a WHITE advantage? Or is it a MONETARY advantage? They're not synonymous.

both exist simultaneously and to varying degrees with a bunch of other factors involved.

If you need a multitude of explanations on why it's white privilege then you need to reevaluate your model.
Or, as stated before, call it something else.
If we switched the factors around and made it "Black Ignorance" regarding the higher number of blacks in prison -- it'd be called racist.
That the target is white does not remove the racism.

And as an addendum: The privilege is extremely subjective and at best relative to other factors outside of the person's skin color. (Neighborhood, inheritance, connections...)

And how is this mutually exclusive from black people having a tougher time making it in this world?
You're framing this argument in a way that avoids the issue.
That my parents were white had nothing to do with their accomplishments.
Your claim that whiteness = invisible knapsack of goodies from birth is the issue.
quote:
Are you unable to sympathize with black people?
I'm unable to stomach people making a truth claim with absolutely no regard for the person behind the skin color.
That's what I get but don't respect regarding your opinion.
quote:
You really think that if you were born in the projects(and for the sake of statistical average, choose the median income level of all public housing recipient, whatever city that may fall in) you would have the same opportunities you're afforded? You have to be the most narcissistic, ignorant, and racist person to be on this board.
Your dumb assertions aside:
Do you think a white person from the projects would have the same opportunities as I would if I came from the middle class?
A Hispanic? An Asian? Anyone from poverty? I don't.
And secondly: I live in Mexico City, I've seen more poverty than most people have watched commercials about poverty during the late night.
I empathize
Not just with black people, but all people of poverty.
Get that through your thick skull.
I don't say that one impoverished white, Asian, Hispanic or Black is better than the other. I say that they all have an uphill struggle and all get arrested at higher rates than -any race in the middle class-.

I had no idea we were viewed in such a superior light.
Guess I'll have to just lie back and accept it.

I thought it was funny...sigh.

Oblivious that someone is superior because of their skin color?
I'll take that ignorance.

No, oblivious that being a majority skin color gives you favor in certain situations.
You're free to take the ignorance, though

Also, I'm fricking with you. You take this white privilege argument way too seriously, old sport

When someone seeks to trivialize my accomplishments due to my skin color I take it extremely seriously.
I was just playing with your words, but when you say "Majority skin color gives you favor in certain situations..."
I can agree with that.
Anytime you're surrounded by people who are like you (regardless of skin color) of course you will have advantages.
That's seldom the case for ALL whites.
Why not call it majority privilege and not white privilege?

No one has done that. In fact I and others in have gone out of our way to say otherwise.

I can agree with that.
Then we have no argument. This is All that is meant when most refer to white privilege.

Precisely.

Again, I'm not saying that. Talmbout the USA.

Who's the majority in America, where everyone on this site either lives or grew up in?

Also because it needn't be said. If someone has the majority of money, they have the majority of the privilege.
Privilege is an individual facet, not a racial facet. As I said: A rich black man has just as much protection (if not more in light of certain racist comments weighed against homophobic ones) as a rich white man.
A poor white man is going to have just as hard of a time as a poor black man. Those who don't have will suffer, those who do will not.
The majority might be white, but white privilege only trivializes the working class -- it does nothing to those who actually have everything and is not shared between the classes at all.

Incorrect. You just don't like it.

Not necessarily. No one's saying racial privilege is a panacea.
