I'm sorry, but I don't and never will buy into the mantra that someone can't be a success because of the color of their skin. To me, that shows true bigotry and infers those people are less than what they are.

I don't think anyone is trying to say this.

That is exactly what "white privilege" talk is about.

No it's not. It's not saying you can't be successful because of your race, it's saying being white gives you a built in advantage to make it a little easier.

In a lot of areas, yes. Latinos have assimilated and blended with the white culture in this country for a long time. I Love Lucy worked with Desi Arnaz. It wouldn't have with a black guy. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Assimilation is the smart thing -- do you think I came to Mexico City and just said: frick it, I'm white, why do I need to learn about Mexican culture and the Spanish Language?

I agree, but I think they are marginal at best relative to the advantages to whites. Especially on a macro level. In your personal experience, it doesn't feel that way, but that's the truth. Highland Park, an affluent area in Dallas, had their first black family move in in 2005. BLACK GIRLS STILL CAN'T GET IN TO ALABAMA SORORITIES. Any benefit I'm sure the frat stars in the SEC will brag about Greek life, are completely excluding black people at some universities. Private entities are still more powerful than public ones. And affirmative action isn't present there.

Which in turn makes it more difficult, or another way of saying makes blacks less successful.

It is nothing but saying blacks aren't capable and are less than they should be. It pigeonholes them into a nice little category to be exploited by the cottage cheese race industry and politicians.

No. But even in Latin America there is an expression that "money whitens". Why is that?

No. It's just admitting that life isn't fair. It's less fair for some than it is others.

The Gov't is the single largest employer in the U.S.. Hardly marginal.

Ok. A girl can't get into a club. A man can't get a job. Which is more detrimental and holds one back?

What private entity is more powerful than the Federal Gov't and it's agencies?

If that was the only dichotomy that existed, you might have a point. It is just one example of many.

But they set policy, enforce laws and have better benefits than most private entities.

This made me google the list of the largest employers in the US and then the world:

1. United States Department of Defense
2. People's Liberation Army
3. Wal-Mart

Sure, I'm not arguing the fairness of it, just the existence of it.

I don't buy into that either. I'm only saying there is white privilege in today's society. And yes there are examples of black privilege, but by and large white privilege is more prevalent.

It's from South America (Brazil to be exact) and is a phrase associated with bringing whites to Brazil for diversity reasons.

And that's ancient, man.

How people can go from this to believing in magical forces that 'help' white people be successful I can't figure out.
The invisible racism ideas I've seen here is like talking to crazy people. What specific advantages does being white confer?

Because I haven't found it. I know some poor white people from North Al and being white never put food on their table. So can we stop with the racism about how being white makes you successful?

Saw it all over Georgia. Again, I'm wondering if we get some kind of card or membership.
