Canis in that part of the US, not unusual.

If you know the state well, one of the best places to actually see the stars anymore and lots of peace and quiet. If you know where that is, had an armadillo sneak up on me one night there just a couple of years ago.

In my experience those and possums are some of the loudest (and most idiotic) animals in the woods at night.

Was this in the Chihuahuan where there are no leaves on the ground?

We have coyotes in Ohio, but I am not aware of any armadillos. Someone killed a bear up in Mansfield, not too far from Columbus.

Because when I was younger you expected armadillos in the Southwest. In very rural Tennessee, nobody expects it.
