Been watching shark week all week this week. Sharks have always interested me for some reason. Has anyone here been attacked or been close to being attacked by an underwater predator?

I'm far more fascinated with alligators. But I'm more of a lake person than a beach person in general. To answer your question, not that I'm aware of

nope. Charged by a grizzly once. Lucky for him, it was a bluff charge. Had my .416 Rem Mag zeroed on his chest. He got to about 30 yards and stopped. I was steady, but I soiled myself a tad.

I guess the closest I've come was going swimming in a lake with my friend in natchitoches, LA. 3 days later a 8 foot alligator was spotted in the area we were swimming in. I love studying more about underwater predators, especially sharks and alligators.

just did. He got attacked by a bull shark. That just got rated the #1 deadliest shark out there, your friend is lucky he got out alive. Was he a friend or just an acquaintance?

some friends and i had jumped off a boat in the gulf to cool off (near the russian freighter) a few years back. a diver came up telling us two lemon sharks had been circling us we best get back in the boat.

couldve been fricking with us, but didnt seem like it and we didnt question it. never saw the sharks though.

Most shark attacks are pretty close to the shoreline

I've seen 100s of bears (blacks and griz) in my years here, that was the first one to ever charge. All the others ran away or fell to a shot.
This time I was moose hunting and didn't have a bear tag. I must've surprised him, I know he surprised me! Never knew he was there until I hear crashing n' thrashing in the alder thickets about 100 yards away. Turned to look and oh shite!

For some reason that never stops me from swimming out pretty far. This shark week might change that though.

I live in Florida so probably yes... none i have actively been aware of. I have been bumped twice by usos/unidentified swimming objects lol. Nothing will send you straight to the shore quicker than that moment.

I had a freak out for half a second at the beach last week when I saw three large dark figures moving in my direction down on the panhandle.

They got closer and they were these schools of pompanos. Looked like big sharks for a second though.

This past May in Seaside, FL my GF's brother in law was fishing about waist deep not too far from shore. I was just boozing next to him.

Wave comes up about 10-20 yards out buy where he cast and clear as day there was a six footer or so shark in the wave with fin out the water.

Suffice to say we got back to shore quickly.

They don't want to bite you. They're just looking for fish.

The Hutto guy who was attacked by the bull shark only 60 feet out had a couple fish he had caught hooked around his waste to a stringer... That's what initially attracted the shark... Bull Sharks are territorial so it bumped him once... Then commenced ripping a MFer's leg off ... Not cool .
