Holy shite Dawgs, I just thought of this, but do you live in the south. Proximate to the areas heavily damaged in the storms over the last two days?

If so look into relief effort jobs. They pay a ton per hour and you have to work 10-12 hours a day so you end up getting overtime on top. If the work lasts for a couple weeks or so you can probably get enough money to last for a few months while you keep looking.

indeed.com had one listed when I did hurricane relief while looking for a job.

good luck.

No, they extend and extend and extend. Whats the point of looking for work when the gov't teat fills their needs. And, no, you aren't over qualified. Do you really think those companies hire and think that employees are going to make a career out of it?
This all smacks of my sorry-arse sister-in-law who complained of the gov't teat. She is/was a para at a school and got laid off for a year. She wouldn't hear of stepping out of the box - she would rather live with her hand out.
I applaud you for the painting job - that is doing what it takes. But to sit there and complain that you aren't getting a free ride when there is work available is plain shitey...

no but they do hire employees they know wont quit at the first better job.

Also sounds l like you have problems with your sister in law and not the OP. You should probably talk to her about it.

Maybe not a career, but they do hire in hopes that the person hired stays on long term. I applied a lot of places I was over qualified for when I was unemployed, and that was the message I got. A few flat out told me I was unhirable because I would quit as soon as something I was qualified for came along, and they were 100% right. So it's not always as easy as going out and getting a job at McDonald's.

Word! I know some of the arse hats are just being a dick for the fun of it. But some of them probably really believe it and its making me lose faith in my fellow Americans. I've been workin 10+ years and this is the first time I got laid off, and I was only on umemployment for 16 weeks.

Don't include me as those doing it for the fun of it. It is utterly disgusting to hear fully capable adults say that stuff isn't available, when it is - even though it isn't in a chosen field. Hell, my Dad worked two jobs for 30 years, so don't give me any of that shite.

Reduce your bills? Downsize your home? Sell a vehicle you rarely use?

Sometimes you have to sacrifice and adjust things to live within means. Get a lower paying job, work a part time job in addition. It's not the Gov't's job to provide for you. Suck it up. If you're healthy, there are jobs out there.

I agree, but with the way the govt is now adays then it should! Like I said, we gave 1 billion to ukraine, give out welfare and food stamps, but lets not help out the working class? There might be cases where you get fired and can get approved, but for the most part the only way to qualify is to be laid off from your job. The place I worked for had 4 buildings and 100 or so employees, and now they only have like 6 left, all within 4-5months.

Also the govt takes about 20% of my paycheck before I even get it, so Yes I have been paying for this shite my whole working life. I would rather have a job and not get help, but where are these jobs at?

I'm a welder and painter by trade, so if anyone is hiring, hit me up.

Oh, that road has been traveled one too many times. The thing about the OP's post is just what it is. Work is there, but one has to step outside of the box and DO WHAT IT TAKES to survive. Some are just too good to do otherwise...

Welder?

There's a lot of industrial work down along the Gulf Coast. There a jobs to be found down here. I know moving isn't the best option though. Stay strong, I know it's hard out there for most folks.

I'm in middle ga by the way.

And unemployment isn't enough to live on, and I dont want to live off it, but the politicans are completely out of touch w/ the working class. Its up to the House to pass it, but the House leader, is already saying no and prob wont change his mind. But watch them give tax cuts to the big corporations.

If you're a welder and can't find work, you live in the wrong place. In Houston you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a half dozen 'qualified welders wanted' signs. The O&G tools manufacturing sector here is going like gangbusters.

Also, unemployment benefits aren't paid by the government, they are paid by you an your fellow posters. I sure as hell don't want my tax dollars going to Ukraine or food stamps etc, but I also don't see why they should go to you. I've got enough of my own damn problems to worry about yours.

See I've only been welding for 2 years, and only with MIG. Most of the jobs on the coast wants people with stick welding, MIG, TIG, and flux core welding, plus have 5+years experience. I've applied for a bunch of entry level welding jobs, but still nothing. I applied at caterpillar earlier today, but will I even get a call back and interview?

Look into the the relief effort gigs, you could travel and stay in an extended stay motel (some of the places will even pay for lodging) and make anywhere from $12-$18 per hour then get 1.5 times for overtime, I usually ended up working 60-70 hours a week when I did it so it definitely adds up. You can probably get 2-3 weeks out of work out of it, but look today as the jobs can get filled pretty quick.

Also the politicians are pricks, political parties ruining our system. George Washington called it all those years ago but nobody would listen.

Oh by the way, you aint paying for umemployment....the employeer is.

quote:

employers pay a state tax for each employee. The money pays for all those state-issued unemployment checks – the first 26 weeks of them, anyway. Employers also pay a per-employee federal tax, which funds administrative costs of implementing the system.

Why don't you go into politics and work towards fixing these issues that are making you so sad? There's not really anything holding you back except for the sensationalist views you've adopted from conservative cable news pundits.

There's work to be had, you just have to move to get to it.

Ya know, if there weren't so much cheap labor competition being allowed across the border, there would be more welding jobs available, likely at higher wages. Just a thought.
