Fight on the field of your choosing. Henry offered battle on the field of his choosing... walk through this swamp since you have piddly ranged weapons and attack me head on.
The area known as France was basically a swamp as long as the area existed. The Romans started to drain it, the successor states continued it, and, to this day, large parts of France, without proper drainage, will revert to swamp.
So the melee army, and not a very well organized army, of France waded through marshy land to attack the English who were cheerfully peppering them with arrows. Add to that roughly half of the French nobles would have preferred an English king and you have a recipe for disaster. Which is what the French got.
When the French got organized, which they did a few decades later, they kicked the dog shite out of everyone in Europe. "Their business is war, and they do their business."
