I was point blank told one time not to apply, because I wasn't a certain race and wasn't going to get the job no matter how well i interviewed. It was a gov job and they had the keep their percentages right.

Eh, it works in reverse, too. I was told by someone in the know that the main reason I didn't get to commission in the air force (due to being on academic probation) was because I'm a male (black notwithstanding), and the air force is trying to up their numbers of female officers. Even though from a military standpoint I was worlds better than some of the scum they let commission. Just a shitty deal all around when it comes to affirmative action.

affirmative action is one of those things that started with good intentions but has went horribly wrong. I think it was probably needed at the time to try and get women/others a chance but now it should be insulting to people. Id be pretty damn insulted if you told me i could score lower than someone else and get the job instead of them.
i believe aa is much like welfare,and gov housing. they seem good on paper but they dont work well in the real world.

i wish palin would go away. I believe she does more harm than good for the republican party. which i really shouldn't care about since im not republican but they are the lesser of the two evils that we currently have running things.

It's 2013. There are other tools we can use to help people get ahead. Aff. action hasn't done me any favors at all, including getting into A&M. I did that by my own damn self

I think its only for people that the government thinks might be a terrorist. There is no way the gov. can listen to everyone's conversations 24/7.

exactly its 2013 and i dont even understand why someone would want to go to / work somewhere that is only hiring you to meet a percent.

This. Like I said, I don't have a huge problem with Palin like most do, but the GOP needs an image makeover and has to cut out whomever can potentially detract from progress in that direction.
