in Tuscaloosa.

Why do Alabama people keep saying that the Union burned down their trashy city?

Sherman marched through Tennessee and Georgia, thus Tuscaloosa was insignificant in 1864.

BS - they had already claimed 4 national championships by that time.

They didn't burn down the city, but they damn sure burned down the campus.

quote:

On the morning of April 4, Union troops marched on The University of Alabama – a Confederate military school at the time – and obliterated it by fire.

Everything was destroyed except four buildings: Maxwell Hall observatory, a guardhouse, the 1829 Gorgas House and the President’s Mansion.

Because they did burn the campus.

There are pictures to prove this. Why are you doing this?

No one hates your fake title claims.
It’s just fun to point out the desperation in trying to look as good as you can on paper.

That’s all. I’m glad no other sec schools have made any of these reaches.

Integrity has been a southern thing. 86% of the sec has adhered to it. That’s a HUGE percentile.

ETA. However, screw the war of northern aggression and the crimes committed against any southern university.

Croxton and Wilson stopped short in Gasden.

You actually burned down/set fire to your buildings in retribute to the Union so that they couldn't claim victory in person.

Cowards.

Sad that you actually believe that.

I don’t understand this hill you’re standing on.

Tuscaloosa was a target because the University was a major supplier of Confederate officers.

So you don’t believe integrity is a southern thing?

I do to and that is why as an LSU fan, I donated to UA law school when they returned culver houses 26 million.

I can playfully go back and forth with any Alabama/uf/ut/aub/Uga fan about football.

But integrity was displayed that day in Tuscaloosa.

It deserves to be mentioned often, here.

Culverhouse was an arse. Will never live up to his old man’s name.

I have never heard that it was Sherman's troops that burnt down Alabama's campus, but some Union division most certainly did. The President's mansion was saved only because the President's wife rode on horseback to her home to demand that the Union troops not burn down her home. I don't know what she told them, but thank God it worked. Few SEC schools have such a beautiful old house like that on their campus.

It was a very small and insignificant town that Jackson "cleared out" in 1832.

It was the state capital in 1832. And home to UA since 1820.

Every southern city has the old "wife rode on horseback to save the city" story.

Very false, unfortunately.

It didn't happen.
