Moving there for a year (this July to next June). What areas should I be looking to rent in? It's just my wife and I (and a dog). Ideally we would need to live nearish the hospital system. I'm in accounting/finance. Other than the university are there many employers or should I probably take this time to start an advanced degree?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Look in Haile Plantation area. It's pretty close to the hospital. There are a lot of younger professionals there and grad students. I rented a house there while in tax school, it was probably a 10 minute drive to campus and probably less than 10 minutes to the hospital depending on traffic

I'd would rather convert to Islam and cut my own gigantic dick off than live in Gainesville.

Beware of Florida Man and Florida Woman. That's all I got. My experience with Florida is confined to 30A, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine.
