Not the same past going forward
Time to buy them was before they split into the 4 companies. Those guys got the boost. Same with AT&T if you kept the 7 babies till they remerged as ATT, Verizon, and ??

What do you reccomend
I recommend you do your own research and not rely on what some fool says on the internet. I also recommend common sense and a financial advisor that has roots in research and not sales, marketing, or law degrees.
None of these are quick fix answers but as an old guy the ones who made and kept their money from the stock market were patient, long term investors with good discipline and generally thrifty lifestyles.
The best stock picker I ever knew was a history major I knew since childhood. Very quiet and introspective but also very slow and methodical when investing. Tho he worked on Wall Street in his 20's and 30's he did not keep counsel with those his age and around him. He had a older mentor while up there, but dad in a small SEC city was his lifetime mentor till he passed.
He gave me advise similar to what I just gave you, it just took time till I got old enough to appreciate and understand it.
