You guys are stupid if you think Napier was hired because of rumors about other schools.

He was hired because he fits the pattern for a good upcoming coach. He took over a G5 school and improved them every year he was the coach.

That is the kind of hire a good AD should make.

If they work out or not will be determined later, but nobody hires legendary coaches. You hire guys who are up and coming. Urban Meyer fit the same exact pattern. 4 years prior to being hired by Florida he improved both schools he was at. He had 0 national championships, 0 SEC experience and had never coached at a P5 school. Goes to Florida and wins 2 national championships.

Saban wasn't the GOAT when Alabama hired him. He was considered a good coach who had 1 NC. He became the GOAT after. Bear was not the GOAT of his time when he was hired, and by today's standards he would have been fired in 1970.

Mullen fit the pattern very well, bringing up Miss St from the basement and he had prior experience at Florida, but he ends up busting out.

That's how coaching hires work when you have the luxury.
