It's actually not. Phil is saying that homosexuality and beastiality are both sinful acts, as supported by what's written in the Bible. He is not condemning anyone. It's not our place to cast judgement on anyone. Only God can do that. But making a statement that is supported by Scripture is not hate speech, no matter how hard you try to make it appear that way.

It is funny to compare this reaction to that of the reaction a decade ago when the Dixie Chicks made a statement in protest of the impending Iraqi invasion. The same conservative faces that are coming to the defense of Phil under the guise of freedom of speech mercilessly attacked the Dixie Chicks and called for boycotts of their songs on country music radio.

We are a country of hypocrites.

Here's the thing there are way more religious rednecks than there are godless homosexuals but the rednecks aren't nearly as well organized. Therefore I say all that agree with Phil individually email A&E and tell them we are gonna boycott their spondors and see how fast they unsuspend Phil

I agree.

He didn't say "God hates figs" or anything.

He even referred to it as homosexuality as opposed to many other derogatory terms people use for the gay community.

"It's in the Bible, so it's not hate speech."

Is that the logic you're going with?

A&E can find another staged show rather quickly.

Question for some Christians... didn't Jesus's existence invalidate all those old sins? Like ejaculating in a man's butt, or eating bacon? Or did the anti-gay thing make it in to the New Testament as well?

you're being narrow-minded.

"someone doesn't agree with homosexuality, so it's hate speech."

is that what you're going with?

I believe Romans is the only book in the New Testament that reportedly mentions homosexuality, but even then there is debate on it actually condemning it.

This is what I find amazing. Nobody said that homosexuals are bad people. Nobody said that God hates figs. Phil, and Christians across the world, simply make the statement that homosexuality is a sinful act, and everyone loses their minds.

Truth is, everyone sins. If I said that adultery is wrong, is that hate speech too? Because that is also in the bible. We are still called to love these people as Christ loved us, but that doesn't change the fact that homosexuality is a sin.

He did more than disagree with it, he equated it to having sex with animals.

I realize this is in the Bible. That doesn't mean it can't qualify as hate speech, just because it's in scripture.

I was being a smartass and just pointing out that a group of people with an organization behind their cause tend to be heard even if they are a much smaller overall voice.

from wikipedia

quote:

Hate speech is, outside the law, communication that vilifies a person or a group based on discrimination against that person or group.[1][2]
In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group.

he did not incite any violence against the gay community. That's not hate speech according to every definition i've been able to find.

that, according to definition, does not make it hate speech.

It may be ridiculous, and I agree 100%, but it's not hate speech.

Then why do Christians like to single out gay people? He who is without sin cast the first stone, correct?

What I find amazing is that Christians are so quick to say gay people are going to Hell for being gay, even though Christ supposedly died for our sins. Phil even says that they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Why is homosexuality a worse sin than being rich?
