I don't understand people who don't understand why other people get depressed this time of year.
We put things like fir trees and Holly branches in our house to trick our brains into not focusing that all the plants are dormant and everything looks dead outside. It's a thing for a lot of people. Myself included to some extent. I enjoy working with plants. And this time of year it's depressing to see all of nature's wonder seemingly lying dead.

Thanksgiving for the reasons you mentioned.
Labor Day: Always a Monday, can't beat a 3 day weekend followed by a 4 day week, beginning of college football season and steaks on the grill.
New Years: Drinks and company. Had a few fun new years spent with friends at casinos.
Christmas falls down the list for me because of gifts. It can be very frustrating buying gifts. How much do I spend on them, how much do they usually spend on me, what do they actually want, and I can't be the only person who finds it extremely hard to find something my parents would want. Also all the ads and the way children act about gifts. I've seen cousins and nieces throw some fits.
Then to throw the religious aspect into it. Scholars believe Jesus was born somewhere between mid-September and October. The Catholic Church used a pagan holiday to tie in with Christ's birth to convert them. The Christmas tree is pagan. So the whole "reason of the season" some people say is full of crock.
It all seems so fake and bought to me. I do enjoy the time off with family and food but all the other fluff is annoying. People do drive like assholes more between thanksgiving and christmas than any other time too.

This.
Better music

Stay out of the stores and you will grow to love it too.

Change mine to Labor Day.
New Years is okay, but NYE I don't have off and NYD is spent hungover on the couch.
Christmas around here is magical though. Literally just walking up and down 5th avenue to see the Windows then the tree. Makes me very happy on a busy stressful day.

Outside of a few like Christmas Vacation or Bad Santa, most are terrible.

A Christmas Story is one of the greatest movies of all time.

Elf is too. Love Actually is great. The 2 you said rule.
But all those lame arse movies made in the 40s and 50s suck.

This weekend is one of my favorite things about Christmas. It's going to be rainy and cold here, and we're shutting in, drinking cocktails, making Christmas cookies with the kids, listening to Christmas music, then end the night with a Christmas movie. One last lazy day before the parties and get together really ramp up the next two weekends.

I am a fan of Bad Santa and Love Actually and most are too young to remember the John Wayne movie where they are the 3 bad guys until they find the dying woman and the baby.

How can you hate Christmas?
Simplify it. No presents for adults, that helps a lot.

If the music and movies are so good why aren’t they listened to/watched year round?
