Fried bream, crappie, bass, & catfish were a staple during the summers.

Sounds like you were fishing in Lake Dardanelle?

I used to fish catfish there and we always laughed about glowing at night after eating it.

Ouachita River & Lake Chicot, primarily, but just about any other body of water around, as well.

I think the folks in my hometown actually do glow from eating it out of the Ouachita for so long.

OG - raised on a cattle farm - lucky!!! You're making my mouth water with all that meat fried in lard talk.

I knew a guy from over in Lake Village that was in the legal trade and some folks over in Pine Bluff that probably are on the other side of the law now.

I probably know of a few, as well. Not difficult to do in those particular areas of the state.

I don't think so & doubtful that it ever will.

Oh, the locals definitely know each other. My hometown is slightly west of there & a bit larger, and we all knew each other, which was sometimes unfortunate.

I had a friend from the "country" whose parents had one. We were city folk, though. We always had our very own line.

I admit,, we didn't, that I know of, but know for a fact I had some aunts that would "listen in", just in case there was an emergency of some kind.

I think this can apply to SEC states as much as towns and cities. Smaller population states and limited major schools is the blueprint for "everybody knows everybody" across the state. I agree it can be living in a fishbowl at times but other times it can come in handy.

As a kid I was very mischievous - not the mean or type but the prankster type - and dad was dead and mom had to work. The local grapevine had mom informed about whatever prank I had pulled by the time she got home. As a kid tho I thought mom was a wizard or has psychic abilities.
