Do some reading on Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft and their roles in East Asia and US imperialism in the first part of the 20th century.

The GEACPS was a Japanese version of the Monroe Doctrine and Roosevelt encouraged the Japanese do do this. In many ways Roosevelt can be accused of seeding the start of WW2.

We should really team up on the spin off game more often. This one took off nicely. The power of teamwork.

Finally I agree wth you on something. Not only necessary to end the war, but also to scare the Soviets.

Not exactly. It did save American lives, but the real reason we bombed them is bc the USSR was going to invade before the US could. Clearly, we didn't want the USSR to get control of Japan.

Bull freaking shait.

The Soviet Union had practically no amphibious assault capability. Their operation to invade the Kurils at the end of the war was on the scale of US island raids like Makin island. They had no naval gunfire support, no air support, and few landing ships. They attacked after The Japanese had agreed to surrender terms and still saw 1/3 of their landing craft destroyed and damned near got their asses thrown off the beach.

If the Russians had attempted to invade the home islands, not a single Russian boot would have set foot on a Japanese beach.
