interesting stuff

back in the olden days, I guess the thinking was get this initial thing built, and then you all have time to take more care on building more structures and increasing the number of structures

then the first old one that might have rotting issues can be repaired or used as firewood, and then you've still got the rocks you can repurpose

Back in the olden days, nails were as valuable as gold. When you built a new, bigger place, you burned the old one to the ground to get all the nails back.

Main thing is a good seal. If the wood is kept dry, termites will not feast. If water gets in, then the termites will feast. Been in some old log houses built in the 1700's and still stout. Folks over time did the proper maintenance and kept things dry.

My favorite is old cedar shake shingles. You can see through the cracks when dry but seal right up in rain. Problem with modern roofs and sheet board is no ventilation so the roof can not breath and degrades quicker. If you we're doing a longer lasting asphalt roof, you use 1x's with spacing in-between to breathe better.

was interesting to see him dig those flat shale rocks out of the creek, I guess is the proper name for them

can't remember, maybe he used those for a layer in the roof and some sidewalk type tops both

That's a lot of open flames in a wood/grass structure at the end of the video. Not clever.

I was thinking that exact same thing. With my luck after all the damn work my final "Here it is" moment id burn the fricking thing to the ground and half the forest and get some huge fine and move into an even smaller apartment with my dogs.
