This is why I wear pretty much exclusively Doctor Who t-shirts, jeans and Chucks.

It picks up around that episode.
I had a theory that a few of the episodes were written for Matt and adapted for Capaldi because they didn't fit him. "Into the Dalek" made me think this because that's just not how his doctor comes off. Turns out I was right. I read somewhere recently that that's exactly what they did with a few episodes this season.
Needless to say, the season flourishes near the end when they started writing fresh stories for Capaldi.
