Yes, I am certain we'll find extraterrestrial life. For me the question is where first; in our solar system or an exoplanet. We have NASA missions scheduled for Mars and Jupiter's moons that will specifically look for life.

Also, our technology for directly viewing exoplanets and their atmospheres is advancing rapidly. Since we have only to find an exoplanet with a significant percentage of oxygen in its atmosphere, I'd say we'll detect a life-bearing planet very soon.

My guess is that we'll confirm extraterrestrial life before 2025.

O2 and H2O ... don't forget the H2O if you are talking about carbon based life forms.

Of course, there could be other forms of life out there that are not carbon based.

No. Even if say 1,000,000 of them have life, how many would have INTELLIGENT life? And how many of those would be developed enough to locate a planet like ours, confirm there's life, decide to travel there for whatever reason and develop a means to do so? I doubt it ever happens before humanity goes extinct. Much less in our lifetime.

That's why it was "life", not necessary "intelligent life".

So basically yes to finding life on other planets, and a resounding no to having other life forms visit us in our lifetimes

Key distinction. I am sure we will confirm with mathmatical near certain that life does in fact exist on planet XYZ, and it will not be that far from now (like in the next 10 years maybe).

However, I doubt we ever actually confirm intelligent life on another planet and attempt to communicate with them ever. Our time as a species on this planet will end before then IMO.
