K so went through divorce fews months back, decided to let my ex keep a car and was going to change it over when title came in.. Problem is, she let a friend borrow it and wreck it before I could.. Now I get letter from tow company talking bout storage fees and whatnot.. Shitty part is she kept it quiet till I got the letter, so does anyone know if there is a limit to what they can charge you? TIA

Depends on the jurisdiction.

Was the car totaled?
Typically, the towing company will take title to the car as an abandoned vehicle if they've had it more than a month. They then sell it to recoup storage charges.
ETA- I don't remember exactly how long they had to have the vehicle to claim it was abandoned, but it was a surprisingly short period of time. Pretty sure they had to make an attempt to notify the owner first, though.

I guess you didn't have insurance and/or the person driving your car was at fault? Handling the totaled car is usually part of the insurance settlement process.

Yes I had liability and yes the person driving was at fault. Never got a call from insurance tho

If you had liability only and it was a single vehicle wreck with no damage to someone else's property, then the company doesn't really have a dog in the fight.
I assume the car is in just your name. If it is joint with your ex, then she's as much on the hook as you.
If it isn't, I don't know what to tell you. If the divorce isn't final, whatever it costs you might could become part of the settlement. If it is, you're probably going to have to figure out if the storage cost is worth the hassle of a new civil case.
Eta: The lesson here is that the fact that she's divorcing you should be a clue that she really doesn't give a shait if you get screwed over.

Ignore the letters, let the tow company have the car.The letters are just part of the process of them claiming the car. They have to get an abandoned car title before they can sell it for scrap,or part it out.
If you claim it,you will Probably owe them more than it is worth.Unless it is an old Shelby or something.
If another person/car was involved in the wreck,I think you would have heard something by now, from a lawyer or insurance company.

Sign a criminal complaint for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle lol

That's what I was hoping lol. And fwiw, I divorced her.. Which is y I let her have it. I have proof in a message of her admitting to the car being hers just not in her name and was hoping to find a loophole. Or just ignore it like mentioned
