In the usual, braggart, obnoxious Texan fashion, allow me to shake the collective gay Aggy Texas junk about the enormity our beloved Tejas (like the enormity of our junk).

to El Paso, TX -- 681 miles
to Nashville -- 761 miles

About driving across Texas, it is said:
"The sun did rise, and now has set, but we ain't got out of Texas yet."
Huge penis.
Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Texas is a great state. Unfortunately, it's wasted on Texans.

I was in San Antonio a couple of weeks ago, been to Dallas a few times. I love Texas. I could live there for sure.

Austin is a pretty great Tejas city. I'll give Tejas that.

I started to post about it, but I was really only there for 1.5 days. I stayed at the Omni Mansion on the riverwalk.
Had about a 3 hour window to walk around and walked right past the Alamo. I was too busy trying to figure out why a Ripleys was in town that I failed to look across the street.

Austin is a great city, but it always gets way more credit than it deserves. You should visit San Antonio and Fort Worth.
Hell, Houston and Dallas are cooler cities than Austin. You probably just like the fake hippie weirdo element.

You'd be surprised how often that happens Alamo gets dwarfed by all the other skyscrapers downtown so if you blink, you can miss it.

I guess I wasn't expecting it to be where it was and wasn't paying attention. I walked completely past it, and luckily doubled back when I thought I had gone too far. Had a "doh" moment.
The riverwalk was really neat. I had no idea the Omni was right on the riverwalk area. Still kicking myself I did not make my wife come with me.

Bring her next time! My wife loves it as a date spot. She can shop, eat, and see pretty sights all in one place (plus we got married there so it's romantic for her).
Take your wife at Christmastime when they deck the place out with lights. You won't be disappointed
