21 when married, but 14 when they started dating. So for 4 years the dude was dating a minor. It doesnt matter when they are married, its when they start dating. lets assume they didnt bang...They still kissed. A lot of this board calls Joe Biden a pedo for his kissing and smelling kids (he is), so hold Elvis to that standard

We were out in the yard playing ball and my Aunt came to the door and hollered…you kids come in in, the King has died.

We all went in and gathered around the TV.

If I was one of the parents of Priscilla I wouldn't have let it happen due to her being a minor but I guess they allowed it because Elvis was rich and famous.

What made Jerry Lewis worse was that he lied about her age.

exactly...its crazy. I think boomers on this board think that the heros of their past are incapable of being scumbags. Then they blame democrats of today or whatever nonsense the guy defending him said.

Elvis is a pedo, plain and simple. If you still like his music....like people do with Michael Jackson...just say that, but celebrating the man is pathetic

It's more because times were different back then. A young girl getting married etc was not uncommon. You see they had a relationship and her parents approved. My mom was married and had me at the age of 15.

You are practicing presentism, where you judge people of the past based on the standards of today.

Biden molested his own daughter. What kind of defense can you put up for that? He also had her parents permission? Not even close to being the same thing.

Elvis isn't a scumbag and the relationship is a very gray area now but not so back then. That doesn't mean it wasn't wrong. Had Elvis did that today, he would be in prison and registered as a sex offender.

Putting societal standards to the side, was it right or wrong? People have a conscience that knows the difference between right or wrong would say it is wrong to date someone that young considering he was a grown man. You don't need standards to tell you what is right and what is wrong when already know it in your heart.

This. Like it or not, it's the way it was. Any woman getting married after her young 20's was UNCOMMON! Today it is the rule.

Teenage girls were swept off their feet by men in their 20's. Especially among country folk. My grandpa was 12 years older than my grandma. Judge me if you must.

People today signal virtue over hand-picked issues while fighting vehemently in support for some the most immoral decay in human history.

So move on.

I grew up in Memphis and was in town when he died. I was in an ice cream shop on Summer Ave. when people started talking about it.

Dr. Nick was a physician at my aunt's medical group on Madison. She was the radiologist and had all of the King's x-rays until he died and then someone stole them. She and the other partners kicked him out before Elvis died due to the over prescribing.

When I met my wife in '84, she was giving tours at Graceland. The house is not what most people expect. The rooms are smallish for what's called a mansion, but still just like they were when he died. It's really ugly and tacky as hell, but it of course has to remain in that state forever.

a gray area now? The fug....It is far from a gray area now. It would put you on a 1 on 1 interview with Chris Hanson now.

It was also bad back then too.

EDIT: it is absolutely wild to get someone downvoting this. How anyone could think it is a gray area for a 24 year old to date a 14 year old in the year 2024 is concerning.

where did you get any inkling of any idea that I was defending Biden...Because clearly if you think I was defending Joe, you have poor reading skills.

but yes, I am going to judge a person who started dating a 14 year old in 1959....not 1930 during a depression when times were bleak....or in the backwoods of alabama in 1902....

But the worlds biggest superstar in 1959. Dude was a pedo

Elvis has more talent, charisma, money, and beautiful women than this entire board combined. No one will ever match him.

It was a gray area because no knew what was happening between when he first met her and when they got married. Only they know and both can be honest or dishonest about it if questioned.

People can guess and make assumptions about what happened during that time but without some evidence or proof of wrong doing then it is just a guessing game that leads to nothing. They didn't have laws in the books concerning the protection of minors back then like we do now. So how would you prosecute him with back then?

When you decided to use him to compare it to something that is defensible and bring up politics in it.

I don't expect you to defend it, although democrats certainly don't seem to have an issue with it and generally do. That you can't really defend it was the point.

It's just your ignorance on the time period is all then.

It's a free country, you can judge people by any standards you want. But if you want to start blaming other people because they understand the times while claiming this is somehow a sign that he was a scumbag, then you're just an idiot and people are likely going to tell you so.
