Meh, I thought we were just talking about the USA. The CSA would have probably only lasted a few years.

You could make the argument that we were fighting to retain our freedom in WWII since we were attacked by the Japs on our homeland and Fascist Germany was a danger to the entire world's freedom.
Had we waited another year or 2 before entering that war, all of Europe would have been overrun and fighting that war by ourselves on the Eastern and Western fronts would have been hard to do.

I used to think this, but I don't even believe this line anymore.
In WWII, we destroyed German fascism, which only allowed half of Europe to be overtaken by communism.
That led to Korea and Vietnam, and lots more dead American boys.
Pat Buchanan has a good book about that.
America doesn't fight wars for freedom. We fight wars for lobbyists who buy and sell our lawmakers.
