Long story short, I work for a small business (35-40 employees) and have been here for a long time. More than a decade ago, I’ve been just asking the same little cpa who does my companies return to do mine. She charges about $300 for a personal return. But now it’s got me thinking... Honestly, how easy is it to just do your own return, state and federal?

Business is getting a little squirrelly with the corona?should I be putting cost savings at the forefront?

If you can figure Poasting 9717 times on tigerdroppings, you can probably figure out filing your tax return.

Unless you have some incredibly unique situation, you can easily do it yourself.

Sweet. You're probably right. But I've been here for 13 years now. That's alot longer than I ever considered doing my own return...

Just a W2? It is really easy.

For reference, my CPA charged his minimum $175 to handle my W2, 1099, and look at the previous 2 years I had self filed.

I pay 8k to 12k a year and keep on rolling. What’s shitty is the 100k to 125k I’ve already paid and these fricks keep asking for more.

$300? Isn’t Turbo Tax like $25? Either way, my fiance is an accountant. She just throws mine in with her’s.

You can try TurboTax, taxslayer, or hr block for free if your income is less than a certain amount. I used to be a tax accountant at a cpa firm, most personal returns are very easy. Look at last year’s as a guide. If you pay a cpa, you get to deduct that amount on your taxes.

Not anymore...unless you’re self employed.

If you're W2, it's stupid easy on something like TurboTax. When I was 1099/had an S Corp, I had a CPA, but not anymore.

Assuming you are taking the standard deduction. I itemize and nearly left $500 on the table because I didn’t deduct sales tax until someone pointed it out.

I itemize then take what's better. With the tax cuts, the increased standard deduction won out since my biggest deduction was mileage that can no longer be done.

I've been using TurboTax for about 20 years and have never had a problem. Some years my return was extremely complicated.
