I will say I don't think you have a great grasp on the hierarchy of CFB as evidenced by your Michigan comparison.

All that aside though...ok, he's shite. Fire him. Now what?

I am pretty sure I have a strong grasp on the landscape of college football. I have quite a few friends that are GA's or still play at quite a few SEC programs.

I pointed out a situation in which a program that was on a downspin due to coaching turmoil and major personnel issues developed into a top 20 team through there coaching staffs acumen. No infusion of talent just doing their job and recognizing what they had in the cupboard and using that to put their players in the best position to win. Maybe it is you who do not grasp the landscape of CFP.

Fire him then what?

I never explicitly stated he should be fired but this is some of what I would do:

1.) If I were Pinkel I would attract a young OC that wears a dual hat as a QB coach. Reach out to Sonny Cumbie at TCU for example. Andy Hill moves back to receivers and sorry Pat Washington, it's time to go.
2.) I would immediately recognize my limitations and focus resources to attract top talent from the Midwest. We are the northernmost SEC outpost use it to our advantage.
3.) I would hire a member on my staff that knows the landscape of Florida/Georgia in the same capacity as a Tee Martin/Dameyune Craig/T Rob. (We moved our footprint but did not establish someone on the staff with insights to the region)
4.) Promote Craig Kuligowski to Associate Head Coach and pray he stays.

Or plan B Fire Pinkel put together 4 million and another additional 1+ million for assistants and go reach out to Tom Herman and Fuente. (This is totally feasible by the way from a salary perspective)

Can't fire Pinkel, just got extension, Buyout is Huge!

Unless...New AD guarantees Herman will follow him to Mizzou, then the Boosters pony up for the buyout. Everyone knows what happened to the Nubs, good coaches don't jump to schools who are quick to fire successful coaches. You gotta have the replacement all lined up and ready to sign.

You compared the all time wins leader in Michigan to Mizzou.

Is Harbaugh better than Pinkel? Yeah, probably, but he is a top 5 CFB coach. We would have to get extremely lucky to get one and he likely wouldn't be here very long if we ever did.

Im fully behind bringing in some new blood to the offensive staff if we don't see significant improvement over the final 1/3 of the season (we won't).

We recruit the Midwest heavily, as we should. Its extremely difficult to attract "top talent" here for a myriad of reasons.

Both Walters and Washington (who you advocate firing) have experience recruiting those areas. Again, we have a huge disadvantage on the recruiting trail for many reasons and several of them are much higher up than "our coaches suck"

Do whatever you can to keep this man happy. He's the best position coach in CFB.

Here is the rub. It may be difficult to attract a coach here if you fire a guy like Pinkel after one bad year. Herman and Fuente both look like great young coaches, but both will have access to better jobs than Mizzou. Aside from that, there is no guarantee they'd be successful in the SEC either.

If we make any kind of move it needs to be at OC, and we need someone with some fresh perspective.

Oh yea. Pinkel leaves when he is good and ready knowing we will not pay out that buyout unless we really tailspin into Vanderbilt territory....

I don't disagree, especially if you add OL and maybe WR coaching to that. I believe our WRs have regressed since Andy Hill moved to QB. But will it happen? Probably not. WDWWD.

Maybe, but also the WDDWD mantra was being spewed heavily following the 2012 season. Very loud cries for Pinkel's job.

2013 was probably the best team in school history.

I know the basketball team NEVER finished dead least in conference as we did this year. 9 Wins is pathetic.

I think Pinkel is golden until he wants to retire.

OL coach AJ Ricker on the other hand....
