Two or three more seasons? I think I just threw up thinking about the recruits we’d have if he’s given even one more year of mediocrity and terrible football.

If BO is back, we need to also pair that move with an experienced DC.

No, I don't think that BO forgot defense but I do think he needs a guy who is currently a coordinator whom he can lean on and take some of the game prep off his plate. Also someone who can be there at all times during practice. He has to do all of that plus be the HC and everything that comes with that.

That hire will be very important

I don’t know if Randy Shannon is the best DC in the world, but we could do worse.

Florida fans seem to think that they would keep Shannon in some capacity.

Shoop is also going to be available.

Grinch is only making 625k at Wazzu. We could offer him a couple hundred thousand raise.

I doubt you see BO bring in an experienced DC, unless he’s willing to step back from running the defense. More likely is bringing in a good LB coach that’s also a good recruiter, or move little BO to coach all LBs and bring in a CB coach.

Him not wanting to give up control of the defense will (if it happens) probably ultimately be his downfall.

He can be successful calling the defense, but most of the other DC responsibilities he needs to delegate out.

Which everyone except him has known for over a year.

We actually have two open full time spots right now if I'm not mistaken.

I'll disagree there. I think a true DC will be brought in. I don't think he is against giving up the play calling either, him doing it now was more out of necessity. One of his biggest missteps was not replacing Cross in the offseason.

One thing in last nights game....A UConn player (receiver) caught a pass then did something stupid by throwing the ball at our defender. He got a PF penalty, and coach Edsall sent him to the locker room! I wish more coaches would take a stand like that. BO has had several opportunities to send Moore to the locker room, and hasn’t done it yet.

That was on an interception. UConn was also so far down at that point, that they had no chance of winning. The coach doesn’t do that if the game is close.

Ok...my mistake. I still like the message it sends to the other players. Maybe he doesn’t do that in a close game, but I would like to see it. Moore has such an attitude, and he really isn’t good enough to have one. I would love to see him sent to the showers for his stupidity sometime.

This.

The guys tries to make up for his inadequacies as a HC by becoming a position coach/coordinator as well as HC.

Can be. But a quality HC would be able to hire a DC that can call the defense, freeing him up to, well, you know, be a head coach.

BO being retained but hiring a faux aast/DC would be the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig even if you could find someone to accept being the lipstick.

Regardless there is not one intelligent football bright DC who would hitch his wagon and potential future to BO even if BO were to somehow overcome his UNEARNED ego and pinky swear that he would let the DC control the defense without meddling dictates from BO's defensive genius(so he thinks). #BOMUSTGO

There are several quality coaches that call either the defense or offense themselves.

It's not unheard of, but it's probably not the right fit for a rookie HC either. It's not that it can't work, I just think that it was too much on his plate too soon. If he's retained we need to hire an experienced DC. Sterk should make it a condition

Given this statement, I reiterate the gist of my "checkmate" of the whole retain BOdumb and hire someone to be his defensive babysitter/supervisor idea:

There are several quality DCs that we could get. We'll just have to pluck from a lower level likely. Money talks.

I really think Grinch is the perfect fit if we can lure him back. We can offer him a pretty hefty raise, but barring that we are probably looking at someone from a G5 school.

Again let me simplify, NOBODY worth their shite would be so stupid as to hitch their future to BO. Simply put again, of course you can hire a DC but he won't be worth shite.
