Goes without saying that hitting 100% from the field is a good thing.

What I was (maybe) more impressed with was how Tilmon played once he had 3+ fouls. There was no doubt he'd foul out, but that he played so aggressively and -- mostly -- in control while in foul trouble seems like a step forward.

An effective Tilmon changes the face of this offense dramatically. Here's to JT being able to mash the gas pedal down the home stretch.

Agree; granted I haven't seen a ton of games (bc they're on too fricking late) but he's almost unguardable down low

Tilmon with a more dynamic PG is a 14-16 per game scorer next season.

That drop step dunk was just flat out dominant

Tilmon without the foul issues is likely in that range this year -- without a PG.

...he could average 14-15 points a game, because in the low post he's not going to pass the ball.

We need Porter to step up inside too. Last night, he got the ball on the low block, against a much smaller player, and instead of taking him, he chose to pass the ball back outside. When you have a smaller individual posted up, and no backside help, you gotta take him, and stuff it. Tilmon did last night!

I agree to a point, but last night (especially in the first half) Porter really showed what he is fantastic at; mid-range jumpers and unbelievable passes. He had a couple of shots that were tweeners that looked great, and my goodness, that pass to Tilmon in the 2nd half that resulted in a basket and a foul (and a missed free throw) was a play that neither player should be able to make as freshmen.

Porter plays too soft to play down low. I wish he would toughen up bc I think he would be a mismatch against almost every team.

It’s not that Jontay plays soft. He just doesn’t have the footwork yet to be great in the low post.

Oh, I agree he’s a great passer...and sometimes a good shooter. But he is 6’11. No better play in basketball is when you screen a guard, and they switch. Now a 6’11 guy has a 6’2 guy guarding him down low. Take him to the hole and slam him and the ball through the hole. Become a complete player!

Whenever I get frustrated with JP, I try to remind myself that he's a senior in high school. Give him time -- he's gonna fill out and get it figured out.

I don’t disagree with this, but even in HS, you know he had smaller guys guarding him on the inside from time to time, and he took it up to the rim.

He’s supposed to be a 5* player. Even a walk on would know to do that!

Blue you are wanting Jontay to be something that he’s never been. In high school Jontay always played as a 6’11 wing on offense. He did the same in AAU.
Jontay spent last summer playing AAU ball where he went from being ranked around 80 in his class to top 10 in the 2018 class. Had he spent that time with the Mizzou coaches he would have the footwork to exploit those low post mismatches.
Next season he will be in position to be good there in addition to good at the midpost and perimeter.

In his playing career he has never been the go to guy. While playing with his 6’10 brother I’m sure he had plenty of smaller guys guarding him, but the ball was never played through him.

That is the problem with his play. He has always been in the shadow of his brother and has always looked to pass to him instead of taking the ball to the hole.

He will continue to get better and stronger in the post now that he has the experience of not playing with MPJ.

If he stays two more years he will be a lottery pick and maybe a top 5 pick, because he will still be young, he can shoot, and pass. All he needs is to fill out and get better around the basket.

Jontay played a great game last night, besides the foul trouble which I really cant lay on him because those refs were dogshit.

He'll get more comfortable with his back to the basket, and he'll get stronger.

I liked the use of Jontay in th midpost using the faceup attack.

I know that’s not right! I watched about 7 of his HS games, and he knows what to do when he gets the ball in the low post. He played there a lot in HS. MPJ was the outside guy and scoring threat, but Jontay got plenty of touches too.

How many players did he face in high school with his height and wingspan. He played for a 3A basketball team in Missouri as a sophomore. Last year as a junior he played in Washington, so I’m guessing it’s been a few years since you have seen him play high school basketball.
