It will be interesting to see what base set the Mizzou D goes against Auburn. A 3-5-3 would allow more athletes to be on the field to cover the run. Marshall throws the ball more than I would think he does. About 17 attempts per game. Not sure if Mizzou will go traditional 4 man front. I think either a 3 or 5 down lineman front helps better protect against their very good run offense. What about you guys?

Don't know. They'll definitely use the scheme they think gives them the best chance to stop Tre Mason and Nick Marshall. That may be a 3-5-3. Doubt we know until Saturday.

My belief is Steck will show them some different looks but mostly stick to the 4-3 base package which is 14th best in the country against the run. The different looks will be to confuse Auburn or induce them to change their play at the line of scrimmage.

Our defense vs. their offense will be a great matchup, but I also think we can put some points up on these guys.

I've been trying to scrape up any information on defending the Triple Option, but it's been tough.

So speaking out of my arse, here goes... Considering our best athletes are our D-Lineman, I want four of them on the field as much as possible. Teams have consistently drilled us when we go to a three man front.

I'd consider going man with their WRs, or at least man with Gaines on their best WR, ala Evans last week. I'd also lean toward playing my best tacklers behind the DL, be they LBs or safeties. Whoever the best run fillers and tacklers are. If they beat us in the passing game, so be it. Make them do it.

I've gotta be honest too, this is the first time all year I've felt in the least bit nervous. It's these damn visions of Navy destroying us with the Triple Option. That said, this defense seems significantly more athletic than the 2009 version. In fact, this seems like our best defense in memory.

So long story short, I might go with a 4-4-3 with the 4 LBs actually being a combination of LBs and safeties.
