Kirk Farmer says hi

2001 was Pinkel's first year at Mizzou. Farmer beating out Darius Outlaw, who in 2000 had 9 TDs to 16 INTs, was probably a really easy decision to make.

Farmer was the starter for 1 year. 13 TDs to 6 INTs 47%. A definite step in the right direction.

Then Brad Smith rolled into town, who was Pinkel's 1st QB recruit.

So, I will give you points for the Kirk Farmer reference, but with the caveat that Pinkel had just started at Mizzou, when we were particularly atrocious and big personnel decisions were being made.

Bottom line...Pinkel may bench Mauk in 2015 or 2016 in favor of Lock. I'm just saying is that it would be very much out of character for Pinkel to do so. I personally don't care who is the QB, so long as we win.

Yeah, I chuckled as well.

You never know. Didn't Luck stay for 5 years? Lock is the truest of sons. He wants to be a Tiger.

That being said, burning his RS is not the major risk here. The mass exodus of transfers is.

Redshirted one, started for 3, skipped his RS SR year.

I hadn't thought about that. Berk is graduating. I don't think the staff have any 2016 QB's on the radar really. Interesting.

Printz is set to graduate in May, so he was probably leaving after the season.
Zanders probably transfers if Lock has already passed him.
Mauk only leaves if Lock passes him. Hasn't happened yet.

If this occurs, we now have to take a QB in this class. Maybe two and it didn't seem as if we were too heavy after any up to this point.

He has said in interviews recently he is sticking it out. That would be quite an about face.

I'm still surprised he is at QB. Not sure if he would transfer or switch positions.

I really doubt this happens. Mauk would have to be absolutely awful and us lose a lot of games. Pinkel sticks with his QB's.

Couple Walk-ons I guess...but I'll be interested to see if they take any 2016 QB's.

Sticking it out probably doesn't include staying past when Printz graduates. If he stays that great for Mizzou, but there will be a lot of schools that he could start for his last 2 seasons.

What evidence do you offer that guarantees he will forego his senior year?

That is true. I think alot of it will depend where he is on the depth chart at the end of the year. But seeing his comments, it isn't like he is disgruntled staying behind Mauk.

Here is Pinkel's post-scrimmage presser.

Just basic coach speak.

Won't they all leave anyways in the spring when Lock is named number 2? So burning the RS has no impact on that unless you plan on burying Lock at #4 next year too.

His definition of sticking it out and ours might be different. His might just mean until he graduates.

Smoke from who? Beat writers? Bloggers?

Stats with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th team? With no contact?

I've never seen beat writers get so excited over a QB who is 4th on the depth chart. But the point is....he is 4th on the depth chart.

his is what I am concerned with. "people". Not coaches. Not the depth chart. Not conventional wisdom.

"People" like bloggers, who want clicks.

"Sources" is one of the most abused phrases by bloggers and writers today. Especially when they write things like this. "Now, more than ever, we here at the blog are convinced that Drew Lock is playing this season. We base that on nothing more than what our eyes have seen during these three scrimmages."

Let's all just calm down and see what Monday brings.

I've said I was shocked...and my sentiment still applies. I wait until coaches put out official depth charts.

Bloggers write things to get clicks and conversation on their site.

Pretty common stuff.

you were flat wrong. Spin that how you need to be but you used some strong language in your opinion as well so its not like you were sitting on the fence.

Some respectable people that follow the program had this called before hand and you poo poo'd all other them as "bloggers" and "click bait artists"

So does this mean we need to recruit 2 QB's this year. Are there many quality QB recruits left? Seems like everyone is signing early. I wonder if at this point could we even steal Skylar Thompson from K-State?

About what? Besides my opinion on where Lock would be on the depth chart. I used facts about the past, and used those to create an opinion, which everyone is certainly entitled to. What strong language?

I stand by those statements. Journalistic integrity has gone down the tubes, particularly when it comes to sports. Op-ed's have become the norm, which should not be the case.

That's been one of GP's recent strengths: The willingness to do things somewhat differently than in the past.

Except when it comes to the QB position. I believe MM is 14-4 as a starter. Pretty damn good record. MM has to totally stink it up for HCGP to bench him. But he is capable of that also.

You were flat wrong on a couple different levels in this thread. Just own it man.
