...sit down with Pinkel, buy him a couple jumbos, and say, "We're paying you 4 million fricking dollars to head up this team. What, exactly, are you gonna do to salvage this season? And don't give me that 'we do what we do' shite. Cause it ain't working."

Doing "what we do" works...when it works. When it no longer works, intelligent people know that it's time to adapt.

It's called adjustments...a simple word and concept that sometimes seems like Chinese to Pinkel and his staff (sans Coach Kul)

The alcohol and aggressive language would violate any number of HR policies. Perhaps the best step is to form an internal committee to examine the pros and cons of the season so far, and evaluate, in a less threatening tone, the expectations.
Start with some positives, then dovetail it into a discussion of where the department feels he isn't fulfilling his potential.
After legal approval, schedule a time to discuss the situation and outline achievable action items. Most importantly, he should feel valued even when discussing areas of challenge.
Following the chat, initiate a follow up conversation to see how he's doing and to see if there is anyway we can help facilitate a positive outcome for all stakeholders.
Make sense? Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Work in a Nae-Nae, and I think you have a winner.

Sofa is right. I was wrong.
There should initially be a "Memo Of Concern" before further steps are taken. ie:
Dear Coach Pinkel.
The administration of the University of Missouri is concerned about the lack of success displayed by the University's football team. We fear that you've either given supervisory control to a moron on your staff who spends his work time sniffing bicycle seats...or that you, personally, are allowing our program to turn into smoldering horse shite.
We will be scheduling a meeting soon to discuss this embarrassing mess.
ps: Do the names Hunt and Abbington ring a fricking bell?
Sincerely,
U of Missouri Athletic Department

Do you not think if the offense was fixable, or the staff knew how to fix it, it would be fixed by now?
They've changed the WR rotation a bunch this year. They've tried different combos on the OL (not the one I want, but still).

Hmm. I appreciate your effort, and your passion is certainly in the right place. I think we need to focus more on presentation and wording. On Tuesday, we're having a sensitivity training session in the 2nd floor board room. Happy to loop you in with an invite. Lunch will be served. I'll shoot you a link to the Panera menu for your order.

Yes, please, include me in the meeting. I must remind you that the memo was merely a rough draft to be vetted and edited by those high in the eagle's nest.
In retrospect, I admit I might have unfairly denigrated horses...and likely my subtlety could be strengthened somewhat.
I appreciate your support on this touchy personnel issue.

We're all in this together. My office is always open for hugs.

Thank you for mentoring me in this sticky wicket. Oh, by the way, you wouldn't happen to know what Panera is serving on Tuesday, do you?
During a recent Cultural Awareness training, the working lunch included a dreadful corn-based soup Panera provided. It put a real damper on the "Math-Challenged Asians" module over the lunch hour. Even my Pakistani colleague, Dr. Kayani, agreed it was nearly inedible.
I don't agree with him that more curry would have helped, however, but I'll manage whatever is offered.
Thanks again.
