OT - BBQ

Not sure what the rules are about OT on this sheltered board, but I noticed a lot of interest in the hijacked expansion thread. I didn't want to continue the hijack.
From what I can tell we have some folks real serious about BBQ here.
I have to know what KCBS event SEMO helped organize. Our team competes in three or four events per year. We went to the Royal in KC this year. Anyone else on here involved in competition BBQ?
Having grown up in the KC area where sauce is a big part of BBQ, I have to say I prefer the dry rubbed style better, with just a hint of wet at the end of the cook.
Let's see how this thread takes off as we near lunch time.

I love pork steaks.
Also nothing goes better with BBQ than
pudding and sweet tea.

It's unlikely you will ever have a reason to be in Holcomb, Missouri, but if you like pork steak, this place has the best: Strawberry's I'll bet SEMO knows this place. I use their shake on rub and their wet and spicy mop on my babybacks.

Pork steaks? You from the east side of the state?

Will definitely try to make my way down there whenever I'm back home.
Holcomb ain't but a couple hours away from where I grew up.

Us over here on the west side don't really eat much pork steak. More ribs, pulled pork, brisket, etc. I've had a pork steak of two when I've been in stl though, good stuff

No. It seems that very few people outside of Southeast Mo. and STL know what pork steaks are.

The smoked pork steak is something I never saw in KC. First I ever had was in the bootheel. It is good stuff.

You're absolutely right and it's kind of odd, when I've told people about it before that haven't had it they're like pork chops? And I was like no totally different you just need to try it

I definitely like these better than pork steaks.
I've also had Chamorro (Guam) BBQ when I was deployed to Iraq with some Guamanians. Them can cook a mean BBQ.
*actually everything was thrown on the grill, we didn't have a smoker*

All this BBQ talk has me craving it. I'm think I'm headed over to LC's to get some burnt ends for lunch! Sorry y'all can't join, they are truly amazing.

I grew up on the east side of the state and can not count how many times I had porksteaks with Mauls all over it. Great stuff.

LC's is my current favorite in KC. I can see the haze in the room from here. Mmmm.

There we go another person with impeccable taste, and yes the haze in the room just enhances the experience as well as LC just sitting there at his table.
I also really do like Oklahoma Joe's but have been trying to stop going there because the owner is a well know beaker supporter.

Now I have to ask you where you're from! I was born in Sikeston but grew up in Cape.
And I've been go Holcomb, but not in years - when I was a kid, we'd go to Holcomb or Campbell for peaches. Sadly, I've never been to Strawberry's. In Cape, the Pilot House was always a great one.

Heh. Pilot House is good. Always stop in there after a round of golf at the Jaycees course that is right there.
Port Cape isn't too bad either.

Port Cape is good too. You know the Cape? Did you live there at one time?
