Well I guess getting something for Miller was a higher priority than getting someone they needed.

I like the trade.

We had a spot to fill, and Heyward should produce at a decent clip.

I liked Miller, and felt like he was figuring it out over the last half of the season, but this probably moves CMart into the rotation. I've wanted to see that for awhile.

Forget about Scherzer, cards aren't going to sign those checks. Free agency has become a rich mans game.

Meh. Heyward can't hit lefties and has lost all his power. He'll probably be better than Grichuk and we could afford to move Miller but I don't think this trade makes us much better.

Not too mention he gone after this year.

He hit lead off in ATL.

He is not a lead off hitter.

He'll hit lower in the order here, and with some protection he'll produce. Not a 30/30 guy, but he'll be better than what we had out there last year. Grichuk and Piscotty are not quite ready yet. This will bring them along another year, with one of them being available against lefties as needed.

I like it if for no other reason than all the Braves fans are bitching about it.

I think you're right and he'll move down in the lineup Remote, but I do find it interesting that just Friday there was an article in the post with Mo and Matheny talking about the possibility of moving Carp down in the lineup and how that might change how they view things on the trade market if he is moved down. I wouldn't do it but I do find it interesting that they were just discussing it.

We'll see. He might have been hitting lead off because he's not a middle of the order bat.

If he can hit 25HR and drive in 85 I'll like the move.

MO gonna MO
This is exactly the type of move he makes. Losing Neshack-no problem just go get walden. Let Cmart and Marco fight it out for the last starting spot.
I disagree on where Heyward hits. I think he hits leadoff and matty carp moves down a bit.

The fun part is we don't have a prototype leadoff hitter now. Carp isn't. Heyward isn't either.
Carp had an OBP of .375
Heyward .351 but stole 20 bases.

Who knows if Heywards pop will come back. If not he is a 1 or 2 hitter. You can flip flop him and carp.
The fun is what IF it does come back. You could have
Carp
Wong
Heyward
Holliday
as your first 4.
I love the off season

When he is on he is a good productive hitter.
He is not paid for his defense which at times is Chris Duncan like.
I think he has another 290/24/104 season in him.

I just love the way Carp works pitchers and counts. It sets up games for later on so well. I just don't think I could move Carp out of the 1 hole. I don't think you'll see Wong and Heyward ahead of Holliday. One or the other.

Carp
Heyward
Holliday
Adams
Peralta
Molina
Wong
Jay

Yeah it seems like he has a good 7+ pitch at bat nearly every time he comes up. I would like a little more pop from a corner infielder but I love that career .379 OBP.

5 left handed hitters in the lineup. I kind of wish Heyward was right handed. It will be interesting to see what Mo does next. Probably need a right handed bat to complement Adams at first. Other than Jay, everyone on the team has potential to hit 15-25 homeruns. Speaking of Jay, we have a clusterfrick at CF. Jay, Bourjos, Grichuk, and Piscotty are capable of playing. No way the Cards have all of those outfielders on the MLB roster. Mo isn't done making moves...

Can Piscotty play CF? I honestly don't know. I suspect he will start the year in AAA again though. I'm not sure he'll get rid of any of those guys in case they can't resign Heyward. The other oft forgotten one that I would assume they're done with is Shane Robinson. That is a lot of left handed bats though. I suspect you're right that he'll still look to pick someone up to come off the bench with a right handed bat.

Good point, you're right. I forgot about that.

Heyward sounds excited to be coming to St. Louis. It sounds like he prefers to not hit lead off but will do whatever the team needs. Adds defense and speed. Hopefully he will find his power stroke. He struck out a lot more the year he hit 27 homers so it appears he cut his swing down to bat lead off. I like the trade. Also adds an effective power arm to the bullpen.
