Thought I'd just share(ok, proud of him, will brag a bit too) that my cousin just got asked to join the President's Cup team(golf for the non-golfers). Just turned 20 and is the youngest player to be a member of the team.

Thanks guys. You might want to hold off on the congratulations until after I tell you where he went to school...tejas. Meh. I could say he left after one year because he saw the light and couldn't take it anymore but the truth of the matter is that he wanted to be able to charge for his signature without having anyone looking over his shoulder.
Really, though, it's been pretty surreal. I still remember him hitting a golf ball at about age 5 and hitting my dad square in the...well you get the picture. Good kid. Good head on his shoulders. So far at least.

Is there a reason you don't mention his name in the OP? I know who it is, anyone following pro golf does, but just curious.

Naw no reason. Just didn't think it really mattered who it was on this board. Didn't know if anyone even followed golf so the name was kind of irrelevant. Probably didn't need to be posted at all but was just excited for him. His name is Jordan Spieth for whatever that matters so if you can stomach rooting for a former longhorn, I know he appreciates all the support.

I was pulling for him in the British after the Cinderella story that took him there from the John Deere. Cool story. Always fun to see the next great player emerge. Hopefully he will exceed expectations and keep his head.

That is awesome! His family has every reason to be proud. Who will crow, if not family?

Who knows what that kind of money and fame will do to a person, but if I had to bet on it, I'd say he'll keep his head about him for the most part. He's 20 and enjoying life, but he's still well grounded and really, to talk to him, he's always been mature beyond his years. He also has a very solid family behind him(not talking about me). They're not the type that have ever tried to push their kid in front of the cameras. Relatively humble yet very confident if that makes sense.
The British would have been amazing, but a major at 19? Might be a bit much. Getting the John Deere was amazing enough. The biggest outcome of it all is that my son now wants me to take him to the range every night.

Yeah, if you listened to my mom, I am the next Ted Simmons...still. The coaching gods just don't realize it yet.

Never did get the whole Ted Simmons thing. I didn't even catch.

Not that it means everything, but I do think it gives some indication of how the kids were raised, but his brother is a freshman playing basketball at Brown.
