I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.
I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.
I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
around and around
I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

Well, holy crap! Highwayman is one of my all time favorite songs!
There's good stuff going on in this thread.
If you mention Highwayman, you might as well mention Poncho and Lefty in the same sentence.
And while we're on old classic western...must mention Marty Robbins' songs Cool Clear Water, Big Iron, and Devil Woman.

Awesome, I didn't think anyone would know what that was. Love me some outlaw country.

Outlaw western is completely different, night and day, from modern country music.
Modern country music = God Awful!
Outlaw Western = Legendary

Yep, nice one socal.
Kills I hope you're familiar with the original Poncho and Lefty instead of the Haggard/Willie version.. but either way, great song.
And yes, Nashville Pop is a joke.
"Garth Brooks did to country music what panty hose did for finger ..." - Waylon Jennings.
It kills my soul that my ultra republican friends love guys like Jason Aldean and Luke Bryant and have never really listened to real country. They are very much programmed little robots.
A lot of the bands I like that are big (indie big) today are influenced by the real music from the past and they rip on this pop nonsense being pushed onto mainstream.

Agree and I mostly listen to Metal but love me some Waylon, Willie and Johnny Cash. Also maybe Art's repeat on Shoutcast will have Ghost Story night, those were always great

I'll update the OP to include the current show and topic....

Sure glad you fellas are enjoying your music. All Greek to me, until you went outlaw western! Good sounds. I will have to listen to your other suggestions.
Mograyback, did the mods block your avi too?

Ghost 2 Ghost was always top notch.
Speaking of ghost stories, my wife woke up last night at about 2 am to the sound of someone typing on the keyboard in our office. Today our labrador will not step foot in there. I'm gonna leave a blank Microsoft Word document on the screen before I go to bed tonight.

Yeah, I'm in the process of figuring out this flickr thing now.. I don't really get what the difference is, but whatever floats their boat.
Kills here's that Poncho And Lefty version by the guy who wrote it.
LINK
Steve Earle once said he'd stand on Bob Dylans coffee table and declare Townes the best songwriter of all time. Idk about that, but he's got a special soul. He called his own death long before he died, he was an interesting guy.

I love that song, reminds me of my old man. I remember when he bought the Pancho and Lefty album, I swapped it with my Michael Jackson Thriller album so I could play it on my record player. He had a friend over and wanted to play it for him, I'll never forget the WTF look on his face when "Wanna be Startin Somethin" started playing. My first prank at 7 years old.

Hahha, talk about completely opposite sounds.. I can imagine how that would result in a WTF look.

I used photobucket, to upload and resize my pics to satisfy requirements; but someone said in another thread that imgur.com was much better.

Townes is a songwriting legend.
I want to see that documentary. I can already tell that I'll love it.
Watch the "Nothing" YouTube clip. Uncle Seymour Washington breaks down crying because Townes music is so perfect.
frick...it almost got me.

Yeah I saw that. Did you see the clip where Uncle Seymour talks about how to live life? I need to see this doc as well.

As an aside to our Outlaw Country discussion. Steve Goodman, who wrote "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" also wrote "Go Cubs Go" I hate that fricking song.

Bogie, as you can tell by the ? as my avi image, I'm struggling. Maybe Jafo should stop by and tell me I'm an idiot, I deserve it at the moment. I'm not a computer guy. Thanks for tryin to help, I'm about to try that imgur site.
Kills, that documentary is on Netflix I think. It might even be on youtube.. worth a watch for sure. That song that made the old man cry is the first one my grandpa taught me to finger pick, still one I play a lot. ETA: Actually I was wrong, I thought you were talking about the Waitin' Round To Die video, the old man cries in that one too.
Socal... Heres my favorite Steve Goodman video. Great man other than being a Cubs fan. LINK
I'm taken back at how much joy is in his soul, I can't imagine knowing I'm going to die young and be as happy as him.. always a reminder for me to be grateful.
