It seems mubobby and I are drawing water from the same well, as most of our information matches. Here is my aforementioned post: Instead of offering my own WWCPD commentary, I'll speculate on what I think will occur. First, I think Alden has made it very clear to HCGP, since the Vandy loss and Sheldon's outburst on live radio to the Mizzou fan base, that things aren't going the way he envisioned. After the loss to Bama and win over Kentucky, Pinkel was given an outline of expectations for the final four games of the season. Alden's expectation was a 7-5 finish. As I've said in a previous post, this was told to me by a very reliable source. If Pinkel closed the regular season by winning 3 of 4, Alden wouldn't touch his program ... i.e. force changes. That didn't happen. Alden will now move in. I do not think HCGP will be fired or forced out. Not at the present time. If we lose 56-7 at A&M, my opinion will change. Remember, Alden had a front-row seat for the Larry Smith debacle. This program is what he's got EVERYTHING hinged on. We went to the SEC because of football. The biggest capital program for the athletic department in school history is the upcoming stadium expansion, which turns Faurot into one of the five finest college-football venues in America. That being said, I'll guess that HCGP will have to switch out both coordinators. I don't think that necessarily means that Steckel and Yost are fired; instead, they may be demoted and retained. I'll guess that HCGP will be given the opportunity to select his new coordinators, but Alden will have the final say, because he's the one paying the bill for them. We'll likely have to double or even triple the salaries now being paid to our current coordinators. To save money, Alden may urge Pinkel to look to the high-school ranks and find a Chad Morris-type of offensive guru. The point is, I think the two Daves have respectively called their final plays for this football team come this Saturday evening. It won't end there. Pinkel will be told to step up recruiting in a big-time way. To that end, I think additional coaches on this staff could be sent packing, one way or the other. If nothing else, this season exposed this team's true lack of depth. We have had a lot of injuries. But I can tell you that the belief within certain circles within the athletic department is that the rash of offensive-line injuries is related to the type of athlete we're recruiting ... meaning that some think we're trying to bulk up kids who just don't have the frame to sustain it in this league. There's also a belief that Pinkel doesn't oversee the recruiting process nearly enough, turning the reins over to his assistants far, far too much on this front. In recent years, this staff's number of recruiting "misses" is way, way too high. To that end, I envision a staff minus at least three of its current members. It could be as high as five. To me, only Andy Hill is safe. People may forget this, but Alden is the one who pushed Pinkel to retain Andy from Larry Smith's staff. Some folks may conveniently find new jobs. Indy, I hope this fixes the problem. I really, really hope so, because head-coaching changes are never easy. I do think HCGP is a very good CEO of this program ... however, he's only as good as the talent around him, in all facets. For next season (2013), I think that those speculative changes would make a difference. And I envision the end result being very close to the scenario that I just described.

I remember lots of people calling for DC's head while he was here. And after his blow-up with the Air Force coach, I'm not sure Alden would take him back. I think Alden will have final say on any new assistants hired, and my guess is he'll look forward.

The questions started when Mizzou message board member mubobby posted a comment saying assistant coaches are already slated to be axed, and Pinkel’s protest of that, along with the team’s embarrassing first season in the SEC has put the twelfth- year coach on the hot seat. The post is as follows: GP was given a very specific outline of what was expected of this football program, and then an ultimatum after the Vandy game for how the season needed to finish. Obviously, failed miserably on both accounts. There will indeed be staff changes, and GP is pushing back against them. This is the reason his job is not as safe as most think. He thinks he can do whatever he wants in regards to this program, but I’m told by the best source there is that his equity here is nowhere near as high as he believes it is. Many of the money people are tiring of him, his public embarrassments of the school and obviously it all came to a head with this disaster of a season. I was told before the season that this was the most important season in the history of Mizzou athletics. They simply could not afford a failure and if it happened, it would not be tolerated. A handful of assistants are already gone, others are still under review. It’s my opinion GPs job is not in danger....yet. He is most definitely living on the edge though. If we get embarrassed at A&M that may change While this certainly isn’t official, the poster has a pretty reliable track record- including correctly calling nearly every detail of the DGB signing. His sources are considered reliable by both members of the online community and those with internal knowledge of the athletic department. Mubobby does have a black spot on his record by saying Mizzou to the Big 10 was a done deal. However, even members of the athletic department were hearing that in the weeks leading up to the announcement, and since then, his information on injuries and coaching decisions seems to have been spot on. While there is no available information on the predicted staff changes, it would seem logical that some demotions and firings are on the horizon. Pinkel does have several marks against him in the last year, but I would not have put his job in jeopardy so soon. However, when someone with an established record says they are hearing from ‘the best source there is’ that he could be on the block, I’d say a lot more is on the line against A&M than just a bowl bid.
