Mizzou's biggest problem has always been not playing the game. No not the actual game with a team. I'm talking about the "how far can I stretch and bend the rules" game. Mike Alden is such a prissy boy and is so concerned about being a beacon of integrity that we will always come up short to schools the simply do "more" to be successful. I'm truly convinced that you have to "play the game" to win big. I'm not necessarily saying you have to cheat, but you've got to push the envelope and bend some rules. I guarantee the majority of successful athletic departments do that and that's something Mizzou really needs to consider if it wants to make it to the next level.

Examples: Cam at Auburn, Oregon football under Chip Kelly, Nick Saban recruiting practices, and obviously kU basketball (although that's more outright corruption and less minor rule bending)

Agree, very very much agree.

But, I really hope we don't have to cheat, I don't think that is a long term sustainable solution to building a program. A program like Missouri has to be built the right way or it won't work for the long run. You can cheat here and there, snag a guy but it's not a sustainable solution. Look at Auburn, they're in shambles. Winning a national championship didn't even provide momentum as a push to sustained success. If you're not building things the right way it won't last. MLB is really coming to a collective understanding of this concept (with a few exceptions) but even most traditional big spending clubs are shifting to the idea of building a strong foundation the right way instead of trying to buy championships.

If we're trying to solve Missouri athletics from football to baseball... the number one thing that has to happen (imo) is to consistently get the top in-state talent. Missouri is extremely/highly/outrageously underrated as a recruiting area, and it's only going to keep getting better. Got to keep the best of our own.
