What the hell happened to eblen? They took away all the points he had earned and we are now in 3rd place behind iowa as well because of it

I wondered the same thing; I had to go to a meeting and didn't see what happened but he was losing 9-4 and then was DQ'd.

Got DQ'd for a headbutt. stupid mistake. Lose all his points earned plus a penalty point.

Well that was fun. I knew I shouldn't have let myself get excited about the potential for a national title.

I won't even tell you what will happen if everyone wrestles to seed that is left. Well yes I will.

OSU 84
Mizzou 89 1/2
IA 91 1/2

I will be so pissed if that holds true. Those 4 points could end up being a huge loss. And a very selfish thing at that. I get he was frustrated and probably wanted to win to help the team so bad, but there's a bigger picture here than Eblen.

Waters down no chance to catch them now, Tomasello has just been on such a roll. Hoping to just get in front of Iowa now.

That completes the mizzou natty title experience. Waters loses in first match of the night to OSU.

Same as all tourney, conservative and sitting back as opposed to OSU going and taking their title.

I agree, he wasn't aggressive at all.

Wrestling tight maybe?

While I agree Mizzou has wrestled pretty tight Waters is not nor has ever been an aggressive wrestler. He really has few bonus point wins all year. He is much like the Northwestern Champion Jason Tsirtis who has the same style. Meanwhile Mayes just puts up 16 points in a match. Got to give tOSU credit they have been hammers the whole tourney and it is why with 5 wrestlers it looks like they could well win this.

Cox just lost and cost himself a spot in the final. To none other than a buckeye. Same old story, we sit back and look disinterested the whole fight.

These guys didn't not seem to be in the right place coming into the tourney. Huge disappointment all around

The Cox match symbolized the entire tournament in my mind. Cox/Mizzou came out complacent and on cruise control. tOSU came out saying we're taking this tournament and there's not a damn thing you can do to stop us. I saw absolutely none of that fire we saw when they wrestled Iowa in the finals of the duals.

Yup, for them all to be that flat coaching definitely plays a part in this failure.

Huge disappointment all around though, 3 number one seeds and only one wrestling for the National Title. We are dropping in the team rankings. So much potential and just didn't get those results this week

I think it would have been a completely different result if we saw that fire we saw against Iowa in the finals of the duals. It seemed like Smith almost coached them to cruise. Like don't expend too much energy and before you knew it, your backs were against the wall and it was too late.

My uncle was down there today and said the same things, that the whole Mizzou approach seemed "timid".

My very amateur look at next year:

125 - No idea. Have to replace Waters, who though disappointing in this tourney, has been solid all year. We'll be weaker at this level.

133 - Have got to find a replacement for Synon if you want to make a real run. He's just not that reliable/good.

141 - Mayes can be as good as anyone one day and the lose inexplicably the next. He'll improve and hold his position but as a junior next year, we need him to be as dominant as Waters and Houdashelt were this year.

149 - Gonna have to replace Houdashelt. Will be weaker at this level.

157 - Lavalle will be a junior and is not the answer. If you want a top 5 or top 10 team, fine. If you want to win a national championship, you need someone better.

165 - Gonna have to replace England. While I like his grittiness and love what he did in this tournament, I also think whoever replaces him will probably be better. I think we'll improve at this weight.

174 - Will have to replace Eblen. Despite his stupidity today, this will be tough. I imagine we'll be weaker at this spot too.

184 - I'm a fan of Miklus so maybe I'm not objective enough. As a freshman this year, he was one of a very few on the roster who could get bonus points. A bit more consistency and he'll be solid. He's the kind that can help get that national title because of his ability to get bonus points.

197/HWT - Cox will be at one weight or the other. He'll be back next year with a purpose. I hope. Mellon graduates, leaving an opening to fill. If we can find/develop quality at one or the other, I think we'll improve over all. I like Mellon but he wasn't one of those to get ya to the next level.

Any of you wrestlers know what kind of commits we have coming in?

Do we have any freshmen that redshirted that we can be excited for in the future?

Know of one that is a 4 time state champion, finished today, something like 162-0 in his high school career.

Not bad.... not bad....

Found him. Jaydin Clayton. I'll have to look up what he did this year, but in the state tournament his 1st 3 years, he won every single match by technical fall or fall, not just decisions. That's amazing.
