Bring Brad into Mizzou right now & all the talk would be about moving him to WR.

Kind of like they did in the NFL? I kid.

I think people were excited about Gabbert, but his play never lived up to the hype. Having said that, he was a solid but not great or even really good college QB. He was fine. Franklin had some really bad mechanics his first year. He'd stand flat footed and straight legged in the most unathletic position you could be in. He corrected that, though hard to tell before getting injured.

I'm hoping Mauk has matured into the position in more ways than one and shows the kind of development that Franklin showed. I suspect he'll start this year AND next and I'm good with that. I think that's also ideal for Lock, to not have the entire load thrown on his shoulders from day 1. Let him get some experience while not shouldering it all.

If you go back and look at Mauk's tapes in high school you would see the same thing you see at Mizzou, except the competition he played against was kind of weak.

He was an athletic runner and when he passed the ball he just heaved it downfield and his receivers would go and get it. He played totally out of control.

Not really......most QBs try to throw the ball where only their WR can catch it.....MM throws it so the WR CAN catch it but he HAS to be meaner than the DB or the DB will pick it off.

Mauk has 1 of the best deep balls in college football. His problem is part fundamentals, but mostly it's mentality. He won't give up on a play, and often passes on making a play that would gain 4-5 yards o. The potential that something opens up down the field.

If he will/can learn to take some of those easy/efficient plays without giving up on the explosive plays he can be a great QB before he graduates.

I totally agree with everything you just said. Mauk is a mixed bag, for sure. The only thing I would add is that he is also gutsy, courageous and a leader. Despite his deficiencies, he has a way of getting it done in crunch time.
