I turned 21 this weekend and I'm looking to use my new found rights to expand my taste beyond warm Natty Ice and PBR. I obviously plan to sample all of the different Boulevard brews, but am also interested in what Mother's has to offer. Any suggestions?

Boulavards Tank 7 is the best non IPA beer on earth right now.

I picked one of these up yesterday at the store. I've always heard good things about it and can't wait to try it.

Try every beer from Mothers Brewery. They make an incredible product! If you're ever in Springfield, you can stop by their distribution center and sample their beer. Pretty awesome place. Great local success story.

However, if you and your friends find yourself in the Springfield area, you should venture a little further south of Springfield to Copper Run Moonshine Distillery located between Springfield and Branson off Hwy 65. You can sample their moonshine and rum. Their bar only makes drinks that use their moonshine and rum, but the drinks are incredible.

I recommend their moonshine margarita. Best margarita I've ever had. Make sure to take the distillery tour.

Awesome, thanks for the reply

Two of my room-mates are from Springfield so I imagine I'll be in the area a time or two over the summer. I'll definitely have to stop by the Mother's distribution center and Copper Run, although admittedly I'm not as much of a liquor guy. However, that can probably be attributed to only having tried bottom shelf varieties

I'm excited for you.

I will say, as a newcomer to craft beer be patient, don't write things off forever because you don't like something now. I know that my tastes are far different now in my late 20's than they were at 21.

Most definitely. A couple of years ago, my sister's boyfriend insisted that I sample one of his IPA's and after trying it I couldn't believe anyone would actually drink that. However, I imagine at some point in the future I'll revisit IPA's and find some that I enjoy

I was never a liquor kind of guy when I was in high school and college. I primarily shotgunned beers and had a damn good time doing that!

However, now I sip McClelland (expensive scotch) during the evenings and I've embraced a burgeoning hipster rye whiskey craze (Old Overholt).

The point is that tastes change. Visit Copper Run. Just drink in moderation. Don't overdo it. If you don't know your liquor limit, here's some advice: Drink an equal amount of water after each liquor drink. Space your drinks out to one per hour.

I agree with this. I used to absolutely hate IPA's until I started brewing my own beer. Now I love a good hoppy IPA. My personal beer progression went something like this:

Pisswater
Blondes
Wheats
Ambers
Brown ales
Porters/Stouts
Belgians
IPAs

To the OP, brewing your own beer is a great way to learn about all the different styles of beer, and it's a fun hobby too - where getting high off your own supply is what it's all about.

Can't do better than a good IPA, which Mothers Brewery makes.

If you plan on going to the Mothers tasting room call and check on the hours of operation because it's not open all the time or every day. Also they have a nice big lot out back where you can hang out and drink and play washers or something. Great place and great beer!

This. I really enjoy stuff I hated 10 years ago. Am currently kinda in a Sweetwater phase (mainly 420 and IPA).

I still can't stand an IPA and for the life of me can't understand how someone would drink that on purpose. I'd rather stick my tongue on a 9v battery, it tastes better.
If you like bourbon wait till the Bourbon Barrel Quad by Boulevard comes back out. Outstanding. be careful with it though, it is high octane.

It's all about the hops man. I particularly enjoy the aroma of a nice hoppy beer.

Sorry. I did break character. Won't happen again. My Bear's didn't look against the #2 team in the nation

Missouri State sucks and has fallen so far behind in athletics that we can no longer even claim to be a basketball school.

Sad really.
