especially gabbert, forgot about him. Maclin was more of a stud 4 star

Maclin was one of Pinkel's first major recruits that decided to stay in state, getting him was huge for the program, both in regards to recruiting and what he would do on the field. Maybe my favorite Mizzou player ever.
Could also because I got wasted on my birthday and challenged him to a race at Campus Bar and Grille.

Thankfully he said no, be my luck the guy would have tore a hamstring and ruined the 2007 season

Tony was not the #1 player in the country coming out of HS. Not even really close to #1. He was a good ball player, but not #1.

At one time he actually was pretty damn close if not there. As time wore on he dropped a bit and I don't think was even the #1 player at his position.

I’m not even sure DGB was the top player in the country. He was a 5* and in the top 5, but I don’t remember if he was actually THE #1 or not. TBJ was a 4* if memory serves me correct. He was the top area player, but definitely not the overall #1.
DGB was the #1 per some of the services, if not all. TBJ was a 5* by some and 4* by others.

ut, there are a lot of other very good programs in the country that do it with 3’s and 4’s.
Do what? I don't disagree but just curious what you mean by do it.

All very good players, but you said we had signed the #1 recruit in the country...twice, which is not correct, to my knowledge. And now since others are jumping on the bandwagon, I thought this should be pointed out.
All the examples you and others have provided were all very good players, and maybe the best in Missouri, but not the #1 in the country!

Ranking services weren't like today but do ya think that maybe saying "Not even really close to #1" is an exaggeration?

I think that quote was in one of the articles I posted. Probably in the other 100 articles I could have posted also saying he was the top player in the nation.

We have the weirdest fan base. We regularly talk about how bad our program is and downplay any success to feel better about our failures.

We have a lot of broken fans for sure.

Thanks Reedus for the research verification (TVZ) that Bluegrass is a dagnabit moron who once again showed he either is an idiot or a Conway truth aversion spin pumper. My bet he is both

Well, I remember Tony, and the injury from the HS all star game. I thought that dropped him way down? Might be wrong, but didn’t think he was the #1 recruit in the country, especially after he blew his knee out before he ever got to campus. I actually watched him play a game in ?HS, and he was the real deal. Just hard to compare athletes when they’re playing sub par teams. But he was good that night!
You are correct about 1 thing...ranking services were a whole lot different back then.
So, to your knowledge, have we actually had 2 number 1 players in the country signed to play at Mizzou? Other than DGB (and I actually think he dropped a couple of spots before signing day) have we ever had 2? That’s what I responded to initially to Tiger Cruise.

He was weeks away from enrolling when he blew out his knee.

And you are at the top of that list!
