Hilton and Perkins weren't highly rated and big-time national recruits. This was a unique year for the state of Missouri recruits and will be pretty good next year. Barry admitted that he stopped recruiting a lot of the top 10 this year and only stuck with a few.

You’re saying that kids that came to Mizzou weren’t seriously targeted as prospects by Mizzou coaches. It’s a fascinating argument.

Not at all. GP singled out 3 guys in that class and gave them the exact pitch that BO gave to the 10 this year.

Next season there are 7-8 that compare to the top 6-7 players in this class.

Sad to say but I'd take BO hitting .333 with those 10 right now.

GP did that coming off of a couple conference championship games.

If BO gets Thompson his percentage in state won’t be much below what GP did.

Thompson would be a good get...no doubt.

I've preached under GP and then when they had the chance to hire a new HC that they absolutely need someone that can lock down the state. You (or maybe it's JQ) will continue to disagree about it, but locking down the state is a must if you want to get to the next level. I said it under GP and I'll say it under BO. So far (granted it's been an extremely short period of time), BO has regressed when it comes to in state recruiting...at least of the top players.

Depends on what you consider last clung down the state. No Mizzou coach has ever gotten all of the top players in Missouri. I doubt any will.
I didn’t rate all of the MO 10 the way most of this board did. The top 6-7 were clear difference makers, the last 3 were less important and Mizzou has similarly rated recruits.
For this to be a good class Mizzou needed to be able to get at least 4 of the top 7. BO will maybe get 2.
STL recruits were slower coming around to GP, maybe a couple of winning seasons will do the same for BO.

No team gets all the top players in their state. There’s a lot of room between all and 10%.

And the fact that no coach has ever done it isn’t really a comfort either. Our team has been historically a bad program. Odom came here selling “championships.” Not recruiting your own school’s state to even a mediocre level isn’t going to get us to championships.

50% needs to be the baseline expectation for getting the top recruits. Not all 10 of the MO 10 qualify as top recruits.
Right now BO is 1 for 6 on players I would consider top recruits. With a chance at getting Thompson to get 2 of 7. That’s not good enough if Mizzou is going to compete for the SEC East. That number needs to be 4 of 7 minimum to be considered a good class.

Here’s the 7 I look at as top recruits.
Thompson, Trout, Perkins, Parker, Babb, Goodrich and Dele.

Right now Mizzou is 1 for 6 on players committed, with a chance of getting Thompson. A decent start to the season and Trout and Perkins consider Mizzou.
