Not long ago it looked like he was going to be fired by the Bucs and BO had him at the top of his OC wish list.

He needs to fire Walters and hire Steve Wilks as his DC if he plans on keeping the rest of his defensive staff together.

He won’t do that. Wilks could be an analyst, if BO has a connection to him.

Maybe, he did coordinate a defense that improved from around 90 nationally to around 50. Year 2 under Walters may improve.

So that would mean the defense as a whole improved. The weaker pass rush was part of the the pass defense falling a bit.
I will be interested to see how many of the DB in this class get immediate playing time.
Of if Gillespie puts in the filmwork to stop making his mistakes. He was the biggest culprit in the back 7, but also the best athlete. The right kind of mental work this offseason could make him an all conference level player.

It means the two defensive rooms he has nothing to do with improved vs the run and his room allowed more long passing plays and more TDs on just four more passing attempts.

You don’t really think the DC doesn’t have a ton of impact on all the rooms do you?

Secondary is obviously the weakest, but all 3 levels work together.

If he is, he might do better to spend a little more time in the DB room making sure his guys know how to handle a smash concept.

I never had a coaching staff that didn’t gameplan together. If Walter, Brian Odom, Hargreaves and Haley aren’t working together then the defense will never improve.
