Can someone give me a timeline of events yesterday?

I read a tweet that DGB was getting counseling, then I went to the Long Beach Gran Prix all day.

When I got home I saw he had been booted.

Did something else come to light?

If not, I'm assuming they know more than we do about this.

I don't think there was any new public information.

If anyone saw the front of the Post Dispatch today, it's not pretty.

Sasha Menu-Courey, DGB and Price pictures all above the fold.

DGB and Menu-Courey articles above the fold.

Editorial passing as news on front page on fear of students at Mizzou or something like that.

Haven't read it but I think it's kind of crappy if they're talking how kids should be scared at Mizzou or something. Is Price a tPOS? Sure. Is DGB a tPOS? Sure. Are there tPOS's at every school? Sure. Did Mizzou do anything wrong or to cause or permit Price or DGB to do what they did? Not at all. In fact, I think they acted rather swiftly and quickly. Thugs are gonna thug it up and the question is how do you respond.

I'll take it one step further and say that the Post should be praising the University on how they handled the situations and thereby encouraging such responses in the future. Instead, the bad pub just makes people naturally want to keep things quiet and potentially sweep it under the rug.

Does anyone think that this is all about the timing?

If the Price stuff hadn't just happened, and the review of the swimmer situation hadn't been released yesterday, is DGB still on the team?

Not condoning DGBs actions, but I wonder if this is a reaction to the overall environment at Mizzou.

I smell a knee jerk reaction by Alden to save his arse with all the negative press in STL.

For the record, the P-D has always enjoyed a good hit piece on ol' Mizzou. I don't recall an article about the safety of motorists in the STL area after TLR got a DUI and Josh Hancock decided to play chicken with a tow truck after a night of boozing at Shannon's, all within 2 months of each other.

It certainly didn't help.

I'd say DGB would still have been on pretty thin ice with just one of the two incidents hanging in the air. With both of them, he didn't have a chance. I am ok with that, too. I don't think he should've been given a benefit of the doubt if they know the stuff is pretty accurate that we've heard.

I do think the timing couldn't be worse for DGB. I think the Menu Report was as much a driving factor as any. I'm sure they knew the report was going to be critical and so they tried to get out in front of it by taking action before the report was issued.

I'd like to think that each incident is handled individually based on the facts involved in each of them. To think that the administration and coaches would have acted differently if DGB did what he did exactly the same but it happened in a vacuum makes me feel a little uneasy.

I know it's probably a bit idealistic, but it's what I'd hope for. Unfortunately, the Alden interview didn't lead me to believe that's the case.

Haven't seen this, is there a link?

Sounds like it may confirm my suspicions.

ETA: Don't know why I linked to the post that links to the vid instead of just linking to the video, but there you go nonetheless.

The post-disgrace and other rags genning up as much of a dirt cloud around such events and excusing it as "it's just us doing our job" is par for the course.

It's a shame but sports journalism as much as any other kind has devolved into a flash file mentality.

Maybe I'm too idealistic, but I really don't want to believe that dismissing a player from the team was a PR move. I'm sure the story yesterday didn't help, but I think there was more to the incident last weekend than has been made public, and that's why he was dismissed. Kid has problems and needs to get his head on straight. I just don't believe they'd sacrifice a player like DGB for spin. They dismissed him because he wasn't good for the team or for himself.

I'm with you on that semo. That's why I was guessing so strongly he was gone.

Yes so much to "clean up" so much crime and corruption at Mizzou,, good job post disgrace..

lol not sure what "spin" anyone is referring to, but it's really not that hard to figure out.

(response to the thread, not just you)

Not sure why there would need to be more info that we didn't here about to cause the dismissal. The info from the police report that was shared in the Matter article is more than enough to get the boot.

He broke into an apartment. A girl was pushed down stairs. His girlfriend said she's been dragged by the neck in the past. And he was arrested a couple months ago.

And the heat the University is under right now definitely played a role in this decision, at least the swiftness of it, he very well may have been booted regardless, but probably not as quickly.

Agree.

I don't know that he broke into an apartment (breaking in has so many ways to be interpreted), but a girl being pushed down the stairs. girlfriend says she was dragged, etc. Previous arrests held upon their merits, I still boot him.

Other shite going on should have no bearing on the situation. Choking a chick and throwing another one down the stairs = adios.

I don't disagree with either of you.

I assumed he would be gone when the reports first surfaced. Three strikes and all.

I was just surprised after it was released that he was seeking counseling. I pretty much assumed, ok, this is how he's going to spend his suspension. Get some counseling, back on the team.

Then I read he was booted. I was kind of surprised, if only because it sounded different earlier in the day.

My first thought was, staff asked him to get counseling, and he big timed them or something. I guess not though, sounds like this is something they decided on earlier in the week.
