Army Has Fired Their HC (Dave Steckel Possible?)

And Dave Matter suggested (not reported, just threw it out there) that they go after Steck. As much flack as he has gotten, he has produced many great players from 2* and 3*s. The thought of him leaving made me think. We had trouble finding an OC last year. But this year we are WAY more stable. But could we do much better than Steck? Do we have someone in house who would be better?

I don't think anyone in-house would be a choice, unless it was Grinch. And that might irritate some people. It seems like Coach K is content to be a line coach, and I don't see Ford as DC.

Steckel is the worst defensive coordinator out there until we have to hire another one.
I'd rather he stays put and we just pray we don't have to play another option, wing-t, power running team.

I think the only real possibility on the staff would be coach K. How did Odom do this year at Memphis?

Saw that his defense was the best YPG last year in their conference. Not sure about this year.

A Marine coaching at Army.
That will be the day.

No way he gets offered the job.
The only game Army needs to win is against Navy.
In his two appearances against Navy / or the similar offense they run the area he was responsible for was demolished.
Would you consider giving the job to that type of guy? Absolutely not.

The rashness of a pissed-off fan set aside. Steck has done a lot of good here. Yes there are flaws and it seems he has not learned from those mistakes. But, coaches of Steck's caliber are not just hanging out on the shelf at Dick's. Finding the right mix of talents is critical.
Steck could move into a head coach position. It won't be Army unless hell has frozen over and Satan is dining on broiled angels while holding court in the Lincoln Memorial. Surely, there is a qualified Army vet to take the helm.
But I think Steck will take up the mantle at a lower-level school for the first few years. If he decided to go at all, I could see him somewhere in the Mid-American like returning to Toledo, or up to E/W Michigan. If he goes at all.

I don't know anyone who was not worried about our defense at the beginning of the season. "How will we manage without Sheldon?" Our defense smashed expectations this year.
