I'm from a small rural town with one high school. Once a year Truman and the Golden Girls came in for one of our school assemblies. Thinking back, that was just student recruitment and building the brand and fanbase. I don't know if they still do things like that or not.

webb city takes HS very seriously. I don't think this translates well to traveling from mizzou games.
But to a certain extent you're right.
look at the other SEC schools in the south. All the small towns within 50 minutes all come to every game.
Lets look at our near by towns.

booneville 8k
ashland 4k
centralia 4k
mexico 12k
moberly 14k
sedalia 22k
Marshall 13k
Thats 121,000. I wonder how many of those folks ever go.

St.Louis has to be mined. It's the most northern Southern City. They don't have pro football. And it's only a small percentage on fans that can make a world of difference in attendance. I'm not suggesting playing a bunch of games there, but it's a hell of a resource.

Does mizzou offer shuttles to and from for games? I could see them shuttling mizzou ulumni in STL/KC

When I was growing up, there was a club in Florissant that would shuttle fans and alumni back and forth each Saturday. I don’t know if they’re still around.
