Oregon showed up for their first bowl in 26 years in 1989 and made it to the national championship in 2010. 21 years of pretty consistent winning with a few bad years.

Mizzou made it back to a bowl in 1997 after a 15 year absence. We are still 2 years removed from the pace Oregon took to get there.

They used to suck, we used to suck and we both play for conference championships. Only a game removed from the national championship a couple times now. We'll get there in the next 5 years.

Whatever you want to call it. Someone not Terry Beckner who created a twitter account to make it appear he was Terry Beckner.

ok, that wasn't readily apparent without reading/following the twitter account, but makes sense when you spell it out.

dude, Oregon has been recruiting in the top 20 consistently for at least 5 years now, we haven't and are not looking like we are going to. Oregon has a top local sponsor that drives consistent improvement in facilities, and pulls down massive financial support... we don't.

Oregon has made at least 2 consistent upgrades in staff/regime change, we continue to 'do what we do'.

No we are not Oregon and we are not on the cusp of being Oregon, but again, if it makes you feel better to think so....

What??? Oregon has just about the least staff turnover in the country. They are very similar to us in that regard.

Hell, when Kelly left they didn't even perform a national search. They just handed the job to their OC. Your head would explode if we did that.

Oregon has a "we do what we do" approach that is very similar to ours. They just have a lot more money and elite facilities that allow them to recruit better.

And their recruiting isn't that much better. It's better, but they're no where close to Bama, FSU, ND and the like. Their recruiting is probably on that 2nd level of teams while Mizzou is probably on the 3rd level or so.

not even talking about when Kelly left, but again you are only going to have a "we are the best, our staff rawks" approach to everything that they fail at, we know who you are little pinkel assistant-troll, now run along back to tigerboard where you belong.

Wow, it's sure chippy in here today.

I'm kind of over the Davis twins, tbh. Their family wants them at a B1G school whose glory days are behind them, and with a new staff whose ability to produce results and NFL talent are questionable. Ok. If that's what they'd rather have, fine. I'd love to have them, but can't bring myself to get that excited one way or the other.

Do we recruit as "well" as I'd like? No. But you really can't argue with our results lately. Will we turn the corner with this staff? Maybe, maybe not. If you want certainty, college football isn't your game.

This is a lot closer to the truth though than what the 'this staff sucks, fire 'em all and start over' stuff some like to spew about here, though.

Im sorry jagd......Oregon hasnt consistently recruited in the top 20 for the last five years.....ONLY two recruiting classes inside of top since 2010....#14 & #16........every other class in mid/last 20s.......Mizzou is knocking on the door as dis Oregon since 2010 & now they have knocked it down. I believe Mizzou will be there with lock at qb in the years to come. Ijs

#ESPN300 No. 1 Terry Beckner reports he will OV to #Auburn Jan. 16. #OhioState Jan. 23 & #Mizzou Jan. 30. Already OV to #FSU in Nov.

So one would think it's down to Mizzou, FSU, tOSU and Auburn.

Recruiting over wins? Is that the criteria.

And again, we recruit roughly as we should given the factors we deal with.

I'm most concerned with tOSU regarding Beckner.

He'll be going there amidst national championship hoopla.

A StL native is perhaps their best player.

Legit reason for us to worry.

here's 247's rating of them:
2008: #23
2009: #29
2010: #13
2011: #11
2012: #13
2013: #19
2014: #21

Rivals

2009: #32
2010: #13
2011: #09
2012: #16
2013: #22
2014: #26

yea it depends on who you look at, the relevant point: Is Oregon a top level-blue blood recruiter? no, are they a clear step and level above Mizzou? yes, in fact absolutely.

In that time frame Mizzou hit 20 once and has been in the 30's or worse for the remainder.

You can "believe" whatever you want, but those are the facts of recruiting, we really aren't even close to a top level recruiting program. This is one of the best years Mizzou has put together, probably the best year and it still won't likely break 25 on the rankings.

As we have discussed countless times, will every team that rates high in recruiting finish at the top? No.

Will every team that finishes at the top rate high in recruiting? Yes.

It's a trend that has not changed and is not going to change.

Yet, we finished in the top 5 last year and have won our division and 12-11 games in back to back years.

Oregon is likely going to win the first CFB playoff without elite recrutiing.

Pinkel routinely makes these rankings look silly. I hope no one is surprised when he continues to do so.

Also ignores the fact that the top programs have their recruits bumped routinely after they commit. Magically, Daniel Imatorbhebhe Florida commit is ranked much higher than Daniel Imatorbhebhe Missouri commit. Strange....
