Or maybe they don't want to be one of 100 schools offering scholarships to every 5* out there, regardless of whether there is any reciprocal interest. Remember, there are very few 5* athletes, and unless one of them indicates an interest in Mizzou, after talking with our coaches, I don't see a need to make an offer. When you play that game, your "offer" becomes meaningless, both to the 5* who has no interest in it, and the 3* who feels like they're just a backup plan.

Collin Giesey from GA is 6'3", 260 SDE

Is he class of 2014, or 2015? If he's 2014, there has to be a reason they haven't offered. Grades, something. If he's 2015, there is still lots of time. Get him to junior day and see what happens.

I totally understand your point, but don't you agree that the coaching staff has produced sensational success on the DL and DE. It's about time to aggressively recruit those positions and expect some of the better talent to be interested. I believe that no one is squeezing more out of the DE position than Mizzou. And then sending them to the NFL.

Giesey is class of 2014, had a foot broken his JR. year so got overlooked. I like the fact that he wants to play for Mizzou, and his film shows him as on tough S.O.B. LINK

I get what you're saying. I'd love to see us go after top-tier talent too, we have a good track record. And hopefully they can find a spot for a talented athlete that wants to play at Mizzou.

I see that you're new - welcome! Hope you have fun here! If you have any questions, just ask, and you should go say hi on the check-in thread. Glad you found us!

I agree venom. We're not to the point, yet at least, where we can go in and take 5* athletes out of SEC states. I think the staff has done a good job, though, of going in and finding undervalued guys and coaching them up. They might not have the same impact the first 2 years in college but more times than not, by their junior and senior years, they are contributing.

I think there is a certain amount of danger, thinking you've made it. You've built a program that 5-stars will come to, spending time trying to get them, and the cost of not putting in the time to get the ones you have better shots at.

I think they are sticking with what has worked. Constant work at evaluating talent. Finding the kids with an upside potential, and coachable.

I am in absolute agreement. And I didn't mean to leave the impression that I am questioning Coach Pinkel. It's just that for 18 yr old kids, impressions are very important. Despite the recent records at TN or FL, the "impression" is that those schools do a better job with talent. I just believe it's time for Mizzou to give that "impression" because they really do have an excellent track record with talent. All that said, I support Coach Pinkel and their staff.

Better way of explaining my point from last night.

I have no issues with the way our coaching staff evaluates talent. It would be nice to see a few 5* athletes in there, but not at the expense of other, very good athletes that want to play at Mizzou.

Are you kidding? I was really was holding out hope with him. I guess that explains the offer to the 2* DE. So far, the staff has had zero success capitalizing on this years success, other than maybe keeping existing commits actually committed. I know the bigger payoff will be with the 2015 class assuming we do well next year, but I thought it would have paid off with landing 1 or 2 of the more sought after recruits they are after, i.e. Sawyer, Hendrix, Cage etc...

Last thing that I read on Cage was that he squeezed in an OV at Notre Dame midweek, because he had Missouri scheduled on 1/31.

LINK

I think Sparty is #1 with him.
